how great the place they live is? I already know my city is crime ridden and dangerous and not a good place to live and I agree that the place the other person lives is a nice commutity superior to where I live but I don't have a choice to live in the other place. How do you let the other person know that you already know what a great place they live in and have nothing against it just because you happen to live in a place that person hates?

This concerns a guy that I met online that won't even give me a chance because he will not date anyone who lives here. He plans to stay there and spend his life with somewhere there. I would think that if I met someone who had a house anywhere , that if we got serious and married , I would move out of my apartment in this city and live in the house with in rather than him selling his big house to move into my tiny apartment. Why does it matter where you live when you are dating someone?

It's unfair that you're not being accepted for who you are and that you're not being given a chance. I'm sorry that it happens like that.
But, however sadly, that is life on the internet. There's not much you can do about it except to persist.

Civic pride is hard to overcome. If someone is belittling your city, it might be their way of trying to get you to move. Try saying that your city is a good city too and list the reasons why you live there for a counter-argument. If that fails, tell the person belittling your city you don't want to discuss it anymore. Nothing in this worlds makes you have to listen to someone that can't figure out that everyone would move to a better place if they could.

I would forget him and try someone else. Just because they live in a "better" area doesn't make them a better person. Sounds like this guy is a real jerk and enjoys putting you down. Even if you did stay with him he would probably always remind you of where you came from so he can always feel "superior". Keep looking, there is someone out there who will see you for the wonderful person you are.

My co-workers do the same thing to me. I do not take it personally. They are still good people, they just don't understand that it might hurt some people's feelings. I'm a pretty laid back person so I often joke about my town. I tell my co-workers how my husband and I go walking around the neighborhood (for exercise) and we count how many abandoned shopping carts and cars parked on the lawn that we see along the way. As a result, my co-workers will usually have a good laugh and then move on to another subject. Humor works wonders!

they're jealous of something about you(family-friend-personality) so they will try to find something that they could get the upper hand on and uses that to make themselves equal to you.

he sound like an ******e. Why do you even bother if all he see in you is where you live? sure it's good to make plan for the future, but to go as far as putting you down about your living area just because you're there and further humiliate you by bragging how much better his place is shows just how immature it is. Final verdict, dump him.

You live in the Twin Cities too?!?!?! lol
Tell them to be quiet....politely. THen tell them that you like it where or are or don't like it and why. Tell them you know they live in a great place and that you think it's great, but you don't need to hear about it all the time. I find being direct is the best way to be.

Who cares? You merely live there. The city is not you. You are not the city. You know why you choose to live there. Do you really need to justify your choice of places to call home to anyone other than yourself?

The next time this comes up, simply tell the person that you already know you live in a s--t hole and you don't need their input on the subject any more, so please quit reminding you of that fact...and now let's change the subject.

Why do you really care? I live where I live, I'm neither proud of it nor ashamed of it. If you don't like where you live, then move. And if this person won't shut up about how supposedly bad your town is and you don't like it, then don't freakin talk to them!
