It depends on the resolution of both TVs - if both have a FULL HD digital TV certificate (1080p) then the quality will be exactly the same. Although, 40 inch televisions tend to be have integrated features such as 100hz refresh rate, 600hz sub-field driving, Dual XD Engines; these particular features are not included in most small flat screens. The larger screen is built-in with visual features therefore making it visually-superior to a 22 inch. If you are not aware of refresh rate - it is similar to response time - the higher the frequency of the refresh as well as the sub field driving - the clearer the image especially when watching fast motions, such as action movies and sports. What the engine does is - augment or increase the clarity/definition of the image thus providing a better cinema experience. If you are a gamer - this will give you an advantage against campers. They normally blend in with the environment. :( -but that won't bother any longer :):):) The contrast ratio is normally higher for larger screens; what this does is determine the clarity in darks and whites; the tv becomes more skilled at separating the darkest darks and the whitest whites; this will also increase the realism. Finally, it is a gradual financial benefit, because you want to a 40 inch, you are constantly going to be asking for a bigger tv, but with a 40 inch you will most likely never ask again until you can afford your own 63 inch tv. Conclusively, 40 inch is better than smaller tvs due to the fact that larger tvs are built-in with exceeding features ultimately providing better quality than smaller tvs.
