My mom thinks i'll break my neck, but i really want to try it. i don't think i'll get hurt (especially if i where a helmet, wrist guards and knee pads) and it looks like fun. also , i've heard people say it's great exercise. i know there are the possibilities of breaking something, but you can break something riding a bike and playing softball too(2 of my other hobbies). how can i prove to her that it really isn't all that dangerous?

I'm a parent, and I don't think it's all that dangerous. Just be smart, and don't go past your comfort zone...that's where most kids make their mistakes, in trying a trick they aren't ready for. Start small and work your way up.
It's great exercise, and despite common misconceptions, kids who honestly skate, as opposed to wannabees, are less likely to drink or do drugs because it messes up their ability to skate.
Go have fun, and let your mom know you're going to start at the bottom and work your way up...not starting like a pro first thing. And accidents happen, it's how you learn.

skateboarding is great exercise. Definitely wear a helmet. Make sure you get a skateboarding helmet and don't wear a bike helmet because they are quite different. You can also put cool stickers on your helmet to make it look better. It's probably just as dangerous if not less dangerous than most team sports. I'd say give it a shot and just have fun with it. I suggest talking to your mom about it and tell her the safety precautions you are taking (helmet, knee pasa, elbow pads) and that most likely you will fall at some point but you can get a line drive to head in softball and get knocked out! Lol just be patient and show her you are prepared. Good luck!

Statistcally speaking skateboarding is not as dangerous sports like soccer football and even. You may see a lot of skinned knees or elbows. If you are wearing a helmet the chances of a serious injury is almost zero. The most common injury that requires medical attension is broken wrist. I opperated a indoor skate park for 4 years. 4 broken wrists, 2 broken ankels one lip that needed 4 stiches. Thousands of hours of skateboarding. with 7 injuries. And zero anbulace rides. Bicycle riding is one of the most dangerous sports out there thousands of deaths and serious injuries every year. Softball you should be alright.

Well, do some serious darksilding, and the board could break as a result of force not being equally spread.
Skating is sweet. That's why I used to and still play the Tony Hawk games.
Just think of physics.
