There is a very good explanation for that. I grew up on cartoons like Thundaar the Barbarian, the Smurfts, Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes, Woody Woodpecker, and all the other greats. What happened is that someone decided that those cartoons were too violent for young minds and that the cartoons didnt have any moral lessons in them to nurture young minds. They thought that just because Tom would smack Jerry with a frying pan that it encouraged small children to do it also. I guess they were worried that violence in this area would encourage violence in other aspects of life as well. I guess they forgot that they themselves grew up on these cartoons and didnt turn out to be psychopaths, serial killers, or sociopaths. So, the violence was removed, moral lessons were put in place of the violence, and cartoons became dull and boring. Thank God Cartoon Network saved all the classic cartoons, for those of us who need a little violence in their lives from time to time.

I'm 24 and I totally know what you're talking about. My husband and I were talking about it. I think it's a couple of different things.
One - They have more educational type cartoons, which is cool for real little kids but not so cool when you're wanting to watch something funny.
Two - So many of the cartoons now are about snotty little kids who love to disrespect their parents and be obnoxious to everyone in general.
I think back in the day it was just the humorous situations that would befall the protagonist or antagonist in the cartoons.

Depends on what you mean by cartoons. I personally don't like the new or old cartoons. Except Family Guy, American Dad, Futurama, Naruto, and Robot Chicken. People have different opinions though, so they might suck too you, but my little sister loves them.
Forgot to Add Happy Tree Friends!!

Two reasons... one is because people like any reason to be able to talk about or express themselves. Answering your favorite color is a simple answer which required little thinking. Voting requires a lot more thinking which most people don't care to do, probably because many people have the attitude that their vote alone wouldn't count for anything... not realizing if everyone that had that attitude voted what a huge difference they were capable of! Another is that the media focuses more on shallow things, which makes the people who pay attention to it more interested in the shallow, unimportant things in life. It's sad, when people would rather follow the lives of Paris Hilton and her trashy adventures than things that actually affect our country and the way we live.

They suck because nothing is ever as good as what you experience in your childhood. You will probably find that although watching these old cartoons brings back a sense of nostalgia, they are never quite as good as you remember. Childhood is so magical that everything you see becomes glorified as you get older as you keep attaching more good memories to those carefree years. You grew up with those cartoons and although modern ones aren't your cup of tea, they will one day hold the same special memories for today's children :)

The best cartoons will always be the Looney Tunes, and I think it's because they were meant for adults, so they have more sophisticated humor. Sure, there's anvils and talking animals and stuff kids enjoy watching, but there are those jokes that are fairly high level humor.

too much anime. I like the older cartoons, too. When I was a kid, all the channels had cartoons on Saturday morning from 7 am to noon!! Then you would watch American Bandstand!!
(I'm over 30... who cares)

I like cartoons today. The humor is more targeted to adults than to kids. I like Spongebob, Fairly Oddparents and Ruff Ruffman.
