A lot of parents do this but it drastically increases the risk of sudden infant death syndrome and many babies have died. I would not chance it!!

NO! You don't give an infant rice cereal until the doctor gives you the go ahead, usually around 4 months.

1) Your baby's body isn't ready for it--a baby's stomach is VERY delicate, and adding cereal can EASILY upset the balance.

2) No need for it--it's a common misconception that rice cereal will make a baby sleep longer. Think again. Your baby is doing exactly what he is supposed to do--drinking milk and sleeping. If he's constantly hungry then feed him more formula or breast milk. Babies go through growth spurts where they eat all the time then sleep all the time.

3) When it comes to food, don't change anything until you speak with your doctor.

NO!

Cereal in the babies bottle makes them overfull. It does not digest but rather sits there like a brick. We've all experienced that why would you want to inflict it on a baby?

Cereal does not have adequate nutrition or calories for a baby. Every bit of cereal takes away from what your baby really needs the nutrition from breastmilk or formula. Early introduction to solids (before 6-9 months) increases the risks of anemia, future obesity and diabetes.

It is normal for formula fed babies to eat ever 2-3 hours until 6 months of age.

Babies have stomachs the size of their fists and must eat enough food to double in size by 6 months (oftentimes sooner). They can not eat more in one sitting, they must eat frequently. The rule is that your baby should eat 2.5-3oz of formula per lbs of body weight per day OR MORE.

The following ARE NOT SIGNS YOUR BABY IS HUNGRY:
*Your baby nurses more often and is fussy in the evening.
*Your baby is fussy.
*Your baby guzzles down formula:
When the bottle goes in the baby's mouth the mouth fills with milk, the baby is obligated to swallow and the action of swallowing initiates another suck. The suck again fills the mouth and the cycle repeats, giving an appearance of the baby "gulping the bottle down hungrily" They will suck even when they are full, just for comfort.
*Your baby sucks his hands or a pacifier
*Your baby constantly wants to be "in arms"

I wouldn't. I asked my doctor the same thing (but just for her night feeding) and he said no. Their digestive systems are not able to handle that yet. My daughter is 2 1/2 months now, she is eating 6 oz, every 3 hours. She sleeps for about 7 hours at night but she is still eating alot.

What formula do you have him on? I know the good start is supposed to be the easiest to digest because it is closest to breast milk. If that is what he is on, maybe try switching to a different formula?

My daughter is on good start, and I considered switching but figured I would just hang in there. She is growing like a weed and eating like a horse but she is healthy and happy :) Her doctor is happy with her progress.

I'd talk to you doctor before doing anything though.

I have 3 children, ages ranging from 8-1. When the older two were babies, I put cereal in their formula, they were constantly hungry, I also did it to my youngest child. I haven't had any problems with them having any food allergies. When my nieces and nephews were babies, my sister and sister-in-laws gave them cereal in their formula. I haven't heard them having any problems.

I would not take a chance. If he/she isn't sleeping, it could be something besides being hungry. My son cried for 11 months and then the doctor discovered he needed ear tubes. He got tubes in his ears and then he was much happier. If your baby is crying more than you think they should, make your doctor do a thorough examination. I wish I would have done this!

I do it, but as you can tell it's very debatable. My baby is always hungry as well. I only do it once a day though...at night before he fall asleeps. Honestly, pediatricians would tell you not to because of the chance of choking. But, I know a lot of people that do it.

No! Do Not add cereal to the baby formula. It has been linked to SIDS. Talk to your babies doctor for suggestions.

I did w/ my son about that age but only do about a teaspoon per 8oz bottle for now. I know it doesnt sound like much but it'll help w/out taking him away from the milk he needs. good luck!
