My female molly had babies, but there are no male mollies in the tank. I do have one male platy.

No, they cannot. The mollie is a brackish (halfway between sea water and fresh water) water fish and the platy is a freshwater fish.

Male platys are usually oversexed (like male guppies) and will try but nothing will come of it.

Most livebearers will give birth up to 4-5 times without a male present if they have been inseminated once.

It is highly unlikely, although a male platy might be attracted to the hormones that the female molly is expelling.

When did you get your molly? If she has been in contact with a male within the past month, she was likely inseminated at that time. Molly fish can also retain the male's sperm for several months following insemination, and are therefore able to produce fry for a while, even without seeing a male.

Zoe is Right. We had the same thing happen with our fish. Our molly a week after we got her gave birth to 30 babies. We had no males so she was bred before we got her. We learned that they can stored the fertilized eggs for a while and she can give birth every month for the next few months. And every time she gives birth it will be more than the last time. Well in our case unfortunately the mother died and so did most of her babies but we still have three of her daughters left and they are just fine. Hopefully this helps.

Yes they can mate. No they won't produce offspring. (Swordtail, and platy are a different matter.) A molly only needs a male once then she is good for a number of births. Most molly I've bought were already knocked up.

stay bearer mixes are in many cases uncommon, yet no longer impossible. in spite of the shown fact that, platies and swordtails are blended very generally via fact there very heavily appropriate. There have additionally been comments of mollies and guppies breeding. in spite of the shown fact that, a molly/platy combination is fairly uncommon, close to impossible via fact there no longer heavily appropriate. additionally, whether the mollies to procure could no longer be actual marbles, there in all danger no longer mixes. via fact there are different colorings of mollies, which incorporates some orangish yellow mollies( or possibly some strait yellow ones), there in all danger mixes of two distinctive colour mollies or poorly bred marble mollies. desire this helps!! P.S. never have faith the human beings on the puppy save. they generally supply undesirable information( which incorporates putting goldfish in bowls), and are often in basic terms section time workers( generally young human beings and faculty scholars, now and returned older enormously in those financial cases) that are no longer experienced appropriate and are in basic terms there to make money. now no longer all of them greater wholesome this description, yet an excellent majority do( enormously those at petco and petsmart). Even aqua expert at those shops will supply undesirable information, whether they understand the actual standards( in all danger via fact they do no longer want the possibility of having fired via fact there turning away sales)
