Depending on the job and the number of interviews you had. The Company could be assessing the background of the "top three". However, if you've had multiple interviews, and have a good feeling about them, relax and wait for the phone to ring - it's your new employer.

I wouldn't assume anything until they offer the job to you as they may be checking for multiple candidates.
When I am doing hiring, I will take the top 3 candidates and call their references. From there, I will determine if I want to bring them in for another interview (or the top 2) or if I have made up my mind.
Sometimes, references will be the determining factor on which one I hire. However, the good news is it means you have passed the "interview" stage. So you haven't been turned down yet.
Good luck :)

They usually only check the references of the top candidate. If they find something they don't like, they'll move on to the references of their second choice. Still, you don't have the job until the offer is made... don't start phoning moving companies just yet!

They usually check references for multiple candidates that are screened one time for interviews and possible hiring. That does not mean you will get the position, however.
Nothing is written in stone until you are actually hired.

Not necessarily. They usually check for references on a number of candidates, not just you. You aren't in the clear until they offer you that job.

I work in the HR field and the answer is no. It means that the company is interested in hiring you and that you are a good candidate.
If all checks out well. You may get the job. Good luck!

usually it narrows down to 3-5 people, then you check references and job history etc.. but you are are in the finals. There maybe another interview or a job offer.

when we have a bunch of applicants, we check all of the employment references, and very rarely do we check personal references. Also, that doesn't mean you have the job.

depends on the company...some review apps and then check references...others review references on all apps. I will tell you the longer the interview, the better you are doing
