oh man. it was the actors, the acting, the excitment/adventure/mystery/love story all mixed up into one!!!
remember, everyone loves a good historically based fiction story. museums, curators, "relic hunters", tomb raiders, mummies, etc..that can never go wrong. especially when u add in Harrison ford, good looking guy, who is surrounded by intrigue, beautiful women, bad guys trying to kill him, all under the facade of a professor! hahaha...
i think getting the right actors, storyline, and marketing all fit together to make blockbuster hits! and #3 was my Favorite one!

I don't know, but I think it had a good script, a believable hero, and great visual effects for the time.
I rented them about a month ago and my 11 year old couldn't wrap his head around the fact that they were old movies. He loved them.
