They gave my kids Enfamil with Iron at the hospital. But name brands get expensive once the baby starts drink more. Store brands are just as good, but if you start out on a formula with iron, then stick to the formula with iron, or if it is soy base, stick to soy based, etc. no matter what brand you use. It really depends on what your bundle of joy can handle. My oldest had reflux and after trying every type of formula during her first six months, the doctor finally put her on whole cow milk at 6 months. I had to give her extra iron drops though. Just go with what you and your baby's doctor feel is best for you baby. Best wishes and Congrats!!!

Talk to your OBGYN. I would say look for a formula that is close to breast milk. Keep in mind you may need to try a few-not every one will work for every child. Go to soy as a last resort as pediatriacians now think there is a link to soy milk and nut allergies. I personally used Similac brand in addition to breast feeding. And register with the brand you use (on line). Similac sent us a ton of coupons for $2-$5 off on the formula and that really helped!
Also, to reduce the chance of colic, go for a bottle that will help reduce air intake. I loved, loved, the Avent system. I have heard good stuff on the Playtex with grid bottoms (you'll know it when you see it). They aren't that much more money, but at our old day care-the kids who used these types of bottles were happy babies and the ones on traditional bottles had colic issues and spit up a lot more. You can get both these bottles at Target. Good luck and enjoy your baby!

I recommend Nestle Good Start. Its easier to digest. For milk inolterance issues or just a gentler Soy based formula I recommend Nestle Alsoy
I just want to clarify that the brand the hospital gives you is the brand that is sponsoring the hospital. The hospital is being paid to use that specific brand. Just because the hospital is offering it doesnt mean it is the "right" one or the 'best" one. While at the hospital (I breastfed both for 2 months but also supplemented with formula while in the hospital until my milk came in) we were given Enfamil. Enfamil didnt sit well with either or my children and at 7 months my dauighter is on Nestle Alsoy (she had reflux issues and a milk intolerance, we went through every milk and soy based formula available) Nestle Alsoy was what worked for her and my son is on Neslte Good Start which gave him the least amount of gas and intestinal pain :)
Good luck!

The doctor usually puts them on a certain formula for you to try at the hospital. There are too many variations of formulas for any of us to tell you what formula to use. For some reason my boys were all put on Similac with iron. My daughter was put on a formula without iron. There are even more choices of formula out than were available when my children were babies. SOme of the new ones are similar to breast milk etc....
Good Luck and Congratulations!

When you indicate your desire to bottle feed, the hospital will give you formula for the baby while you are in the hospital. You will also be sent home with samples of formula as well. You can continue to use the brand the hospital uses. Or, you can consult your pediatrician to see if there is one he/she recommends. Occasionally a baby will need to be switched to a different formula if one causes excessive gas, cramping, or fussiness. Commercially prepared formulas all have adequate amounts of vitamins, nutrients, and minerals needed for a growing baby. You may have to find the one that sits best with your baby or he/she may be fine with whatever you choose.

They are all the same nutritionally so it is up to you and your baby. You may find that on one she/he spits up all the time or has gas. We breastfed first and then at 6 months supplimented with Parents Choice from Walmart. It is VERY inexpensive and has all the same ingredients as the more expensive. Another factor was that I have a friend who is admittedly a little nutty and she actually tasted and smelled all the formulas out there and said Parents Choice tasted most like breast milk. I was willing to take her word on it! So we tried it, and my son loved it.
If you find your baby is gassy or fussy try the organic formula that has partially broken down protiens, it is supposed to help.
Good Luck

It is entirely up to you!! You are the mother and you have to be happy and comfortable with your choices. There is obviously benefits breast feeding, but the same goes for bottle feeding. I would suggest however, that you allow baby to suckle from you for the first couple of days, as this does have vital antibodies for your baby, plus the bonding factor for you both! If after a couple of days you feel you still want to bottle feed .... go for it. Good luck!

Nestle Good Start Supreme. Its got DHA and ARA that is in breast milk and has comfort proteins to make it easier to digest like breast milk. I breastfed for two months then started formula feeding. This kind works the best for my son...I tried Enfamil and Similac and they both made it hard for him to burp and to have bowel movements..now he burps easily and has a bowel movement atleast once a day.. Good luck!

It is best to talk to your nutritionist. If you do not have one then ask your local clinic for the WIC program and they always have one who will talk to you. It is your choice but I would wait until the child is born to see it has allergies. Many children born today are allergic to formulas in one form or another.

I bottle fed from birth also. My baby was Enfamil Lipil with Iron. She developed gas problems when she was 3 weeks old and we switched her to Enfamil Gentlease. We love it she has a lot less gas now!
