Basically just the shape of the phone. They are flip phones and just have a clam type shape. Check out www.phonearena.com for the major US carriers and phone manufacturers out there. For example the Nokia 6102i offered by Cingular is a clamshell (flip), and the Nokia 6030 is a bar shape phone.

Clamshell refers to what type of phone you have. Example: a "flip phone", such as a Motorola RAZR, is referred to as a clamshell because it opens like a clamshell would and a Motorola ROKR is referred to as a "candybar" style phone.
