True story, My husband is a service member and upon getting my license in Guam the lady told me that I have to take my maiden and married last name together on my license. When I asked her why she had a great reply, "its another way for your great grand children and so on to keep track of your family history" which IMO makes great sense. We often forget our roots. So it has nothing to do with ego.

I see nothing wrong with that. At least she is taking her husband's name. I did not choose to do it, but some people are very attached to their maiden name, or they want their name to be the same as their children if they had children from someone else.

I think there is nothing wrong with keeping you previous name and adding your husband name after it. I did this because I have children from a earlier marriage plus credit cards and bank account that I want to keep in my old name

I belive you are going to have to get an attorney and apply for a name change through the courts. You cant completely change your name on a marriage license unless you are taking your husbands name. Then the courts will notify everybody like the registrar, the goverment agencies, and your creditors.

I think that would be the women's lib movement in this country. However, in other countries, it's custom for women to just keep their maiden name without adding their husband's.
