My dr is putting me on Prometrium, after taking a look at all my hormone and thyriod levels, this is the only one off and she says this should work. Anyone else out there tried this drug and had success, how long did it take? Any side affects? Thanks

Prometrium is used for 2 different causes--to induce a late period or to fix low progesterone during the luteal phase. Which are you using it for??

The first answer is correct, it depends on what you're using it for. I took it to bring on my period that was late and I wasn't pregnant. I started my period within 5 days of taking the Prometrium.

I have also taken it to help thicken my uterus lining. I take it from day 16 of my cycle until the end, or until the end of my first trimester if I become pregnant. I was put on it after a miscarriage and my OB had done a biopsy of my uterus lining and found it didn't get thick enough to sustain a pregnancy. I have one healthy baby girl now and I am 5 1/2 weeks pregnant again using Prometrium.

There is a progesterone cream called Prochieve that is used vaginally, but I found the Prometrium is much more convenient because it's a pill, and not messy like the cream. Good luck.

I was put on Prometrium after we found out that I was already pregnant. I began to miscarry and after checking all of my hormone levels, they discovered that my progesterone levels were too low (not staying relatively equal to the estrogen levels, which is important for a pregnancy). I stopped bleeding within about 48 hours. I was taking it three times a day for the first 12 weeks of my pregnancy. Thankfully it allowed me to carry full-term and we now have a beautiful baby boy. :) Oh, and on your last question, my OB said that even if prometrium didn't help, it definitely wouldn't hurt. He called it a "benign treatment." Good luck!
