How can we deal with bullying at work? There are a couple of managers who, in my opinion, are bullies. What is the best course of action?

Speak to your HR dept about your greivance proceedures. Ask for this in writing unless you were given this with your contract. It tells you how to start a greivance against the staff who are bullying. If you are in a union then speak to your union rep xxxx

Best course of action is to get another job and leave. The company is often aware of bullying managers but will still protect them at all costs - welcome to the university of life basically. I had a situation couple of years back. The manager was historically a really nasty bully and many had left because of him. They had even taken it to tribunal, and each time the company (a large regional newspaper) had paid the victims off to keep things quiet. I was advised to go to tribunal by colleagues but decided that, although the money would have been welcome, the real point would have been to stop him upsetting anyone else in the future, and clearly this was never going to happen while the company protected him. I was even told by H.R that I could make a formal complaint but that 'nothing would happen'. So I got another job. Sorry but that's all you can really do.

Is it just you that's being bullied or are there others. Try and talk to the managers involved, they may not realise or believe they are bullying you, or it may be a comminication problem. Try and resolve the issues directly and privately with the managers concerned. If this fails call the industrial relations department in your local area for advice or your local union rep if you have one.

first and fore-most,have you got a union, if not why not? if the answer is not ,look into it ,its not difficult to become /or set up a membership? second, if they are bullying,i would try a bit of reverse psychology, ask them to join you for an out of hours drink, get them nice and relaxed and try to pick what little brains they have ,and how you and your comrades could improvise to make things better in the work place? third thing still ask them to join you all for a drink, and if the above doesn't work, beat the living daylights out of them, and resign? worked for me??

be more specific ; bully to one person doesn't mean it to someone else i.e assertive etc; key here is in my opinion; more details to see if that opinion is the same as the laws on the labor department books
