Playa Blanca is very nice but one of the quieter resorts of Lanzarote. However, as already mentioned, if you are going during the school holidays it will be busy anyway. The weather is great all year round and the resorts stay open all year too, so its always a lttle busy.

The beaches are lovely in Playa Blanca, the national park is not far from Playa Blanca and worth a visit. Also Puerto Del Carmen and Puerto Calero are not far if you want to go somewhere for a change. Puerto Calero is a marina, has a few nice shops and lovely restaurants.
Papagayo beach is amazing, we would often spend an afternoon there. It can get hot so go at the cooler time of day! It's very safe for the children but you do have to climb down to the beach, it's not as bad as it looks and worth it when you get there. (on a map it looks far from Playa Blanca but it's about a 5 min drive)

Lanzarote is quite a small island anyway, there's plenty to do and see if you are willing to travel around (hire a car or use the local buses).
I used to live in Costa Teguise in Lanzarote and loved it, it's a beautifull island. I've added a link for a Lanzarote website, lots of information on what to do and see. There's also a map so you can see where the other places are. (to give you an idea, from Playa Blanca to Orzola(north) would take about 1hr)

I'm sure you'll have a great time!!!

Playa Blanca was once a small fishing village. Over the past ten to fifteen years it has been built-up and built-up. There always seems to be construction work going on there, and being a very dry climate, there could be a good bit of dust in the air from the building and construction traffic.
There are dozens of bars and restaurants, many along the seafront overlooking the harbour where you can spend a happy couple of hours out of the heat of the day under an awning. The sea is very safe for kids.

Just had Christmas in Lanzarote, in Puerto del Carmen, but after exploring most of the island, and all the main resorts, wished we had stayed in Costa Teguise. Much prettier resort, choice of several small beaches, all with rock tide breaks making the sea very calm, even on extremely windy days. Excellent for children, as the sand goes into the sea. Not like some resorts, where there was only rocks in the sea. Plenty of shops, accommodation, and things to do for the children. Would not personally stay in Playa Blanca, as thought it was much more barren and cold looking. Also in Teguise, you dont have horrendous hills to climb to any digs, as the area is flat, but not boring. Stayed up the back of del Carmen, and got fed up of the haul back to the apartment at night when feeling a bit weary. Was very impressed with the Sands Beach Resort in Teguise, would certainly try to stay there if we went back.

Go to puerto Del Carmen! we've been going on a family hol every xmas to PDC since 1986. my niece and nephew's (oldest 8) love it, especially when we hire a car and take them to see the camels in Timanfaya national park and the boys liked Rancho Texas Park in PDC. you can also catch the free ferry bus from PDC to playa blanca for the ferry to fuerteventura - you don't have to get the ferry ;)
also if you jump into a taxi at the airport its less than 10 euros into PDC but the taxi drivers don't usually give change! and takes about 5-10 mins - better than waiting for a bus!
oh and the best restaurant on the island is La rudea (or something like that, it's got a wagon wheel out front above the doors) Lani's are all good too! and if you want perfume go to Charlies they're all over the island they give 20% discount. we stay at La Penita(excellent location) if you ring them direct to book a room tell them you stayed before and they will give you a 10% discount.

Depends when you go...during summer months its really busy with enough to do for 2 weeks - during the winter its a bit dull. The accommodation is excellent - best resort on the island for hotels and apartments but you might want to consider hiring a car to see all the island has to offer. Matagorda might be better if you plan on going up until May

Iv been. Its not a big party place and i didnt go to any clubs there but im sure there are a few. Its a really beautiful place, with really nice people and there are some lovely restaurants. The island is tiny so there are other places you could go to clubs that are not far.
