There was a loud sound from the motor and i realised the briefs had gone into the motor itself, for the bag had a tear in it somehow. What should i do?

You have take the vacuum apart. You can't use it at all with the undies wound up in there, so you have nothing to lose by dismantling it. But I would guess that the undies are toast.

Once you get it back together, be careful with it. The undies may have damaged the motor. The beater brush (cylindrical brush) is connected to the motor with a rubber belt, so usually if there is a jam the belt takes the damage instead of the motor. Belts are cheap and easy to replace, but motors are not. Since the motor got the undies directly, I would be nervous about that motor. If it sounds funny, get rid of it. A bad motor can be a fire hazard.

And I guess you need a few new bags, too.

What have you got to lose? get out your toolbag and wrenches, and start disassembling. Keep all your removed parts in a sandwich bag or something to avoid losing them. Look online to google replacement parts and manuals.

PS never use the vac without a good bag- it just sprays the dirt around the room

If you can see the shorts, start cutting them out. Cut and pull, and if you are unable to do that, you will need to take apart the vacuum to get them out. Unplug it first.

You will have to cut them out in little pieces.
