I mean, it was ALRIGHT. At times, I wanted to fast-forward, though. Why did this movie win so many awards? Maybe I missed something. Can you help?

Much more realistic portrayal or what real life, friendships, and love life is really like. The romance was very realistic instead of sweeping and romantic and yes it showed people over 30 years old instead of gorgeous 20-somethings.
Movie was very funny in parts, educational, and bittersweet. Alll the leads were terrific.

It won awards because it was so well written and acted. The fact that the story seemed mundane and boring at times has a lot to do with what Hollywood produces as main stream entertainment. Sideways is so far from the center of what Hollywood thinks we want to see that many consumers have forgotten what really good story telling can be like. Think about the complexity and multi demensions of the characters in this movie, you just don't see that coming out of Hollywood today.

I haven't a clue. I heard all the hoopla too. Rented the movie and was very disappointed. I could hardly sit through the whole thing even fast forwarding through parts. I wanted to like it, but found it to be a dull movie!!

I felt the same way. I don't even think I finished it. It had some entertaining parts, but not enough. Basically, what it did for me was make me take the wine section of my grocery store a little more seriously, lol.

That movie was kind of like a Seinfeld episode. It's really about nothing. And much like Seinfeld, either you love it or you don't see what the big deal is.

I dont either. I think it was an alright movie...but its one of the few movies aimed towards the particular social class/age group that it was aimed toward - middle class/upper-middle class middle-aged people - and I think the group appreciated a movie that was finally made for them.

same thing happened to my wife.. when I watched it I had no idea what it was about or anything.. i loved it and when my wife saw it.. it was after me and tons of other people were telling her about it and when she saw it she was like " so what?"
