Because they didn't accept the consequences of sex before they decided to open their legs. No baby is an accident. Period. You know what can happen when you engage in sexual activities, right? The only 100 % birth control is abstinence.

An accident is something that happened that wasn't planned for or happened without foresight. Isn't that the same as calling it an unplanned pregnancy? Babies are accidently conceived when mom forgets birth control, babies are accidently conceived when dad's condom breaks. I don't understand what the problem is with calling it an accident. My daughter was an "accident" but that doesn't mean I love her any less or would ever change anything about conceiving her and giving birth to her and raising her...It's just a word and I think you are taking this way too seriously.

I think what they mean is, that a child that is born when the parents did not discuss the issue of having any children, is an accidental pregnancy. A child is never an accident but a pregnancy that is not expected or planned is an accident, unless you were being careless with birth control, in which case, you are at fault. You did not mean to get pregnant, so what would you call that?
Faulty birth control??-

I don't agree with referring to life that way. I'm the father of two
children, one child was planed, the other was not, that doesn't
mean he was an accident! How is it possible for two consenting
adults to conceive a child by way of an accident? There many
couples who have trouble conceiving, yet they keep trying.
Some finally end up conceiving, and when they do they are
over joyed. One thing they don't do is call their family and
friends, and tell them we had an accident we're going to have
have a child. The way I see it is an accident is a bit of bad
luck that befalls us every now and then. There is nothing bad
about the splendor, and beauty of new life.

I thin kpeople use it as an excuse...like someone says WEll weren't you young...and yousay oh well he was an accident. I dont necessarily think that saying it this way is always meant negatively. Both of mine are accidents....But not unwanted ones. Their father and I love each other very much. I am not on birth control and I am not "trying to concieve" so if I get pregnant again (not that I can as i am already !!!!!) it will be an accident. but a good one. I use it but i think the better word used here shoudl be SURPRISE!!!!!!

I love my kids dearly, but they WERE accidents. I wouldn't take it back for anything, mind you, but if the pregnancy wasn't done "on purpose" or wasn't planned, it was "unplanned", or in other words, "an accident".
It's just a play on words, though. I don't think that any harm is meant by the word "accident" in this case.
*EDIT*
By the way, though, my kids will never know that they were not here on purpose. That's a great way to make a child feel unwanted.

I think its stupid, i have a two year olds, had a miscarriage and me and my husband are trying to concieve. Im only 23 but i wanna have all my kids young, and my family referred to my miscarried baby as an accident but i know that babies are the purest blessing on this earth and i cant wait to have another one. Im limited to how many babies i can have (3) so i appreciate every little life that i see!

Well, I was unplanned as well. I believe people refer to unplanned pregnancies as accident, because by accident you got pregnant during the time you weren't supposed to according to the calendar?

Accident: any event that happens unexpectedly, without a deliberate plan or cause.
I didn't plan to get pregnant with my oldest, or my youngest, that makes them accidents. It doesn't mean I don't love them, it doesn't mean I didn't want them, it just means I didn't plan them. I take responsibility for my actions and when my actions result in children I take that responsibilty too.
Really people it's just a word. So much venom for a matter of semantics.
