Belief in witchcraft and ‘evil eye’ exists in various communities. ‘Evil eye’ especially is so widespread and so feared that even mainstream religions recognise it. It is known as ayin horeh in Hebrew; ayin harsha in Arabic, droch shuil in Scotland and mauvais oeil in France. It is bˆsen Blick in Germany, mal occhio in Italy and was known as oculus malus among classical Romans.

Almost invariably, whenever Pope Pius IX pronounced blessings on people or visited certain places, disaster and death followed. Secular critics of Roman Catholics believed the pontiff had an ‘evil eye.’

‘Evil eye’ is mentioned in the Bible in Deuteronomy 15:9. In the Middle East, Muslims read the Qur'an in Surat al-Falaq or an-Nas to give protection against ‘evil eye’.

Your take?

The evil eye is a definite issue to deal with in Judaism. Looking upon another person in a bad light or not giving the benefit of the doubt is one thing, and we are taught that we must we must not judge unless we first stand in the other persons shoes.

The Evil Eye (Ayin Ha Ra in Hebrew) is a much more serious issue. It stems from simple jealousy and envy, i.e. the fact that someone has something that you don't have, and you want it. As a result, you start to broadcast bad "vibes" towards the other person. It is believed that those bad "vibes" flow into the spiritual world and are received by Gods' "prosecutors". Since everything that happens to a person happens for a reason, the prosecutors must determine if the receiver of the Evil Eye really deserves it for some reason. They open his "file" and examine his deeds, and if there is some past deed in his file that appears to deserve punishment, the prosecutors will refer the case up to God who will examine the evidence and then pass judgement. If God feels that the prosecution has merit, then he will execute some form of punishment, either by himself or through one of his agents.

So, when someone gives an Evil Eye to someone else, it can potentially have some bad consequences for the receiver.

On the other hand, if the prosecutor examines the case and finds no fault in the receiver of the Evil Eye, they open a case against the Giver, using a similar process. This brings to mind the old saying that "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones".

God created us and gave us free will. It is his hope that everyone will excercise the gift of free will to do only positive things and not negative ones. God willing, if we all work on ourselves, eliminate our hatreds and jealousies, we will come to only love others and thus create "Heaven on Earth".

Each culture has their own meaning to the evil eye. Many actually believe that putting the evil eye within a household will protect it from harm seeing that the house is "one of them". There is also a way to protect yourself against the powers of evil by cutting an apple and placing a simple laurel leaf in the center because the apple holds a pentacle in it's heart. by blocking the pentacle with the leaf you block the path of evil.
The evil eye exists in most cultures and you are actually able to take your own view on it. Whether it's just your opinion or you've based it on fact, a legend is a legend and a myth is a myth.

Even in Mexico the evil eye exists. Some people have the ability to give it and some don't. When I was younger, I was spending my summer at my grandmother's in Mexico. My cousins and I went to visit a neighbor. I had very long hair. While I was there a lady tells me, "oh my your hair is so beautiful." She just kept saying it and saying it. I went home and about an hour later I and a fever and I was throwing up. My grandmother starts asking where I had been. I told her and she asked who was there. I told her what happened. She grabbed an egg and began to "cleanse" me with the egg and praying and stuff. She cracked opened the egg and poured the egg into a cup of water and you could clearly see an image of an eye.

there is also an New testament reference to the evil eye.
so i assumed it always existed.
but please dont confuse and evil eye with an intense Stare for those people who READ other people through close proximity.

if there is nothing true to it, than it would appear that this is another example that proves the bible is not the Word of God. but since it supposedly was written by a prophet and an apostle, there might indeed be some hidden truth behind it.

The evil eye refers to "the son of Morning Star or Lucifer". If you look on the one dollar bill, you will see the "all seeing eye", this is the eye of Lucifer, His influence on the world economy and government. The evil eye has a talisman called the "hand of Fatima" or the "hand of Miriam", it is a hand with the eye in the middle of it. The evil eye is also referred to as the "eye of Horus".....Luciferians believe that the "All seeing eye" is the power behind the Illuminati, Masonry, etc, World government, NWO, etc...look it up on google under images and under web.......good luck.(Islam and Judaism believe in this)

I agree, but for some reason I ask myself that if you don't want someone to throw harm to you , why don't you just have 100% trust in God to keep you safe rather than be so crazy with this evil eye thing. I m not afraid of no sickness or anything, I pray and it goes away I pray hard that I never get anything bad but even if I do get sick I can pray to God and beg him please heal me. I dream of my body fighting the sickeness. Come on guys God gave us the tools. Don't stop saying this " Kyrie isoy Christo eleison me. My Lord Jesus Christ,
God have mercy on me.

The Three Fates in Greek mythology shared one eye to see the future. Medusa could turn people to stone with her eyes.

A curse is a curse is a curse. We blast people all the time just by blaming, swearing at and wishing ill luck on people...we hear it all the time driving down the road, in grocery stores and in our own homes. The sign of the Evil Eye in itself is not the evil but simply its vehicle and mode of delivery. What ever we believe is possible.

Just because I lack evidence doesn't mean I can poo-poo other's beliefs.

For some cultures, the evil eye is a real manifestation, so I will respect their feelings
