See your doctor, it sounds like you need some counseling before you have the surgery.

You don't say what the reason is for the surgery, or whether you're having a complete hysterectomy or a partial. If it helps you at all, I had a partial (uterus only) at age 39 because of a grapefruit-sized fibroid tumor that was through the uterine wall. Prior to the surgery, I was often doubled over in pain and had pretty much non-stop bleeding. Very awkward for a mom of 2 small kids - my husband had to take time off work sometimes. So for us, it was a huge improvement to have the surgery and I have never regretted it. I do still have my ovaries, though now that I'm 50 and in menopause, they have basically stopped working. If you are able to keep your ovaries you won't need to take hormones, depending on your age. Once you're healed up, sex will be fine and you won't ever again need to worry about birth control, tampons, etc. The freedom is great!

I hope some of this has helped you - best wishes.
