No, there is no way for a computer program to do this.

There are two options:

1. Get a MIDI ripper. It converts high quality CD tracks to crappy and tinny MIDI versions, but you can sing along if karaoke is your intent.

2. Use AnalogX's free program "Vocal Remover".

http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/audio/vremover.htm

In a stereo recording, the instruments are usually "left" and "right" while the vocal is in "center" (actually a mix of both left and right). What the program does is "flip" either the left or right side (not both) to separate the two vocal sections. (If you flip both sides, it sounds the same as the original recording.)

On older CDs and MP3s, the two parts of the vocal will disappear. Unfortunately on newer CDs and MP3s, the vocal will sound like an echo and almost overpower the instruments. The only way to know is to test it.

if you go to download.com and ask for a vocal remover. they work ok, depending on the song. the way it works is as follows, when a song is mixed a vocal is alway in the middle while the instruments are placed around it. what the program does is it tkaes out the middle part of the mix and leaves only left and right. this removes the vocal although usually some reverb/echo remains.
alternatively you could look for midi files on the net, they're programmed instrumental versions of a song. any pc could play them. there's million od midi file sites out there. most are free too
hope this helps!

No. Not unless you have the master tapes from the recording sessions or the pro tool files. The only way to drop the vocals is to mute or remove that track.

If you don't know, don't answer.

Yes, there is. I use "Audacity". I think you can just google it and you can download it. You'll have to get directions from the internet too.
