This is not a dump question. He used strong and, too often, oppressive means to give stability to his government and to Iraq.He had people killed when they were a threat to this stability. Loyalty is not always a virtue. Sadam was loyal to his group, to his tribe, to his supporters. He was a strong leader, which is not always a virtue. He invaded another country, Kuwait. There were some fundamentalist Muslims who thought that Sadam was bad because he ran a secular government which gave rights to woman and Christians.

the least i can say of him is that he started an unfair war against Iran and killed hundreds of thousands of people ,He used chemical weapons against Iranians and some of the Iranian people who were affected are still living, suffering from different kinds of cancers and a lot of children who were born in the affected areas had horrible genetic problems. He even used chemical bombs against his own people in the city of Halabche and killed hundreds of innocent people all at once,He tortured those ho opposed his ideas in the most painful ways and SO ON...(these are only a very small part of what he has done and there is a lot more than that .some of them nobody knows but himself) I feel ashamed of being the same species as him.

He killed many people. I'm an Arab and no that and I know all the mess that happened here. All Arab presidents committed crimes against their people, all of them. Please think with me... If Bush was so concerned about democracy and peace in Arab world why don't he kill the other Arab leaders who committed many crimes?? people should understand that U.S didn't want to execute Saddam because he was a criminal.... they wanted to kill him because he opposed U.S policies unlike other Arab leaders who obey G. Bush. By the way, your question is clever and reflects your passion to know the full truth. The necessary thing that he killed many people.

Yours is not a dumb question.

Saddam was a dictator, oppressing his people, no elections, no civil rights, not distributing the oil revenues, starving his people while under UN sanctions in the 1990's while he was building luxurious palaces for himself.

He invaded Kuwait and when we fought against him over it, he fired missiles into Saudi Arabia and into Israel, for absolutely no reason. We think he might have wanted to invade Saudi Arabia next.

When he was at war with Iran, he used poison gas against the Iranians. He also used poison gas against his own people in the Kurdish region of Iraq, because the Kurds had a plot to murder him.

The people in Saddam's regime had unbelievably bad torture, such as putting people into wood-chipper machines, and murdering children in front of their parents.

It was correct that the US toppled his horrible regime.

He killed his own people with chemical agents supplied to him by the United States and Britain.

They were Kurds....and he killed them with chemical weapons because of a botched assassination attempt on his life.

Why the people who supplied him with the weapons didn't hang as well, we'll never know.....

Saddam Hussein.....for all the terrible things he did....is nothing in caparison to some of his middle eastern contemporaries. So the notion that we took him out because he was a "bad man" is ridiculous. If that were the case we'd take out the Saudis....oh, but wait....they have billions of dollars invested in Bush family fortunes....

Maybe having most of the men and boys (128 of them) in a village murdered because SOMEONE took a pot shot at his car qualifies as "so bad." That should be enough.
