Like Ol' Hugo? Would this benefit the country in any way?

After that is socialized... what would be the next industry to come under liberal fire?

It would benefit the country, but Big Oil has so much power it would never happen.

ANY industry that works to the detriment of the common good should come under fire!

For the U S not a good idea at this time in history.
Hugo nationalized or will nationalize the oil companies because most of them are not good corporate citizens. They are in the most part owned by companies from other countries and all their profits leave the country and aside from the employment aspects of the companies they have not been contributing to the society in which they operate. In the US the oil industry closed many refineries and have not built new ones (for twenty-five years) in order to cut the supply and increase profits(supply and demand) this is not my opinion but the government and the press have the oil industries association's memos when this idea was brought forward and them it happened. (not good corporate citizens) With big business lobbying and donating to the parties who's politicians agree with this style of business not one word was said about this monopolistic plan which, as it turned out gave rise to the high price you now pay for their products. Socialization is not the bad thing the right say it is. As the big corporations and the brainwashed fight against it, the US has fallen behind most developed countries in the world in the areas of health care and education. Eventually full paid public health care will come to pass because as the poor who can't afford it die off the rich will being paying much more to enable the companies in control of the health care system make their profits....then the well off will campaign for it. The developed world and some second world countries have moved ahead of the US in the area of public education and they will have the power in the near future......The well educated from different countries will be hired to run your major companies and hospitals and the US will be giving up it's control to foreigners.
They will have no choice - it will be that or go out of business. Your education system does not give all the people the opportunity to advance to the higher echelons of business and politics.....only the well off are able to pay the bills incurred and that cuts the pool of really smart people - you are not getting the full benefits of your population because you restrict their education. The profit mode of your system is a good thing it drives innovation and has definite benefits.......however TOO MUCH of a good thing can be bad and I'm afraid you the US has entered that area.......(too much) lost control of society and the big companies run the show. If they are not reined in soon your government will not have a choice but to start nationalizing big oil among other industries health etc.

There is a reason, believe it or not, why we stay a Democracy. Free enterprise is part of our system. Putting controls on industry, is not the same as Nationalizing them. Government cannot control industry in our country unless we the people decide that we no longer want to be free. The same would happen with Government controlled medical insurance. Where do you think the money to support these Government agencies would come from ? You got it. more new made up taxes from you and me. I do not see the need to pay anymore local or federal taxes to support any new Government agency. Socialism at any level does not promote freedom from the Government it imposes Dependency to the Government.

The truth be told big oil is already nationalized. Our president, vice president and many of our politicians are complecent in the running, operation, tax credits, war mongering, policy structuring and better interest of the oil industry. They are paid by the oil lobbyists and no doubt are shareholders in the protected, lucrative business of oil. Unfortunately, like anything that is nationalized by any country in the world, the benefits of nationalization never reach the nations citizens.

I cannot see it happening in the US but in the UK most big industries were, but the unions were disliked and had too much power, most of the big industries were sold cheaply and people haven't stopped complaining, little good it will do them. Nothing works and anyone who complains is ignored. All i use to read about everyday were 'fat cat' directors. One guy made £50 million recently while the cleaners of that company were told to work longer hours for less money. The answer to most of the problems is blame the immigrants, that usually works.

Defiantly Communications, it would be a great opportunity to see what your subjects are saying about you. Control the Internet, phones of all sorts, and install listening devices in all homes and cars. Anyone caught saying anything that sounds like hate and discontent would be flogged with wet noodles. The only part of this that is a joke is the wet noodles thing. Dicktators are a paranoid bunch of A holes.

Socialism is not the answer, for anything. The bigger the government, the more corrupt it is, and the less freedom people have. Why would anyone support making governement larger than it already is? Less government, and more innovations are the answer. This can only be achieved in the free marketplace.

The government cannot run itself, much less Big Oil. Turning Bush and Congress loose with Big Oil would be like turning a bunch of six-year-olds loose in a candy store---no control and no accountability.

I can tell you were educated in public school recently please take a look around and point to any government run institution that is run efficiently and cheaply for the life of me I don't understand.

Why liberals see the government as our salvation if they could show successes at least these arguments would make sense

Probably we may lose. With guys like Cheney of Halliburton around, they will come up with exorbitant valuations of the Big Oil, which tax payesr will have to pay. Bogus govt agents, like Cheney again, will be there in the board making sure money ends up in private hands.
