Well I started giving my son baby food/rice cereal at 4 months. But after the other answers I just read I guess things have changed in the last 5 years...

You should introduce cereal as the first food your baby will eat. So far the only thing she is living on is breast milk or formula. So not only does she not know how to eat but she has never "tasted anything but milk" Start with cereal because the taste is closer to what she knows. Babies also don't always know when they are full so watch that closely. After she seems fine with the cereal then introduce half cereal and half of a baby food. Still use tiny portions there stomach is the size of their fist. You are also only suppose to introduce one new food like every two or three week so that if you child is alergic you will know exactly which food they are alergic too.
Don't rush her to eat and remember she is only a baby one time. So don't get too excited to get her to grow up.
Best advice...When swithching from bottle to sippy cup use the sippy cups with the hard plastic top. I made the mistake of using the rubbery kind and know I have a three year old who WILL NOT give up her sippy it is very similar to a bottle.

Mothers are told to introduce one food at a time in case the baby has an allergy to that food. It is easier to figure that out if you introduce one food at a time. It is also said that solid foods should not be given too young, but particularly that too many different kinds shouldn't be given too young because it increases the chances the baby will develop an allergy.
Many people give their baby some rice cereal with, maybe, a little strained applesauce, for breakfast. Rice is milder than some of the other cereals available (digestive-wise).
A baby of four months would have strained foods, as opposed to the toddler foods available (which have small chunks of food in them and are for babies with enough teeth). I am not familiar with the numbers you mentioned, but I'm guessing that the "1" is the strained food, particularly since you say "2" says for six months.
Many people give their baby a lunch of a half a jar or so of a vegetable like sweet potato, carrots, or peas and then give the baby a "dessert" of a half a jar or so of something like plums, bananas, pears, or peaches. (Again, all strained.)

Well, it all does depend on your baby's development. My Dr advised me to start on cereal at 4 months, but if your baby was born premature or is unable to sit up with assistance you may need to wait. I believe the window is anywhere from 4 - 6 months. Start with one kind of cereal and only give her that kind for about a week, just to make sure she is not allergic. You can transition into baby food (the jars with a 1 on them) anytime afterwards when you think she's ready. Be sure to watch for allergic reactions and keep her on the same flavor for about a week so you know which food is to blame should an allergy occur. My Dr advised me to begin the mixed baby foods (jar 2) at 6 months. I personally never even used the stage 3 jars, instead I began introducing table food that was healthy and safe for her to eat. (That was at about 8-9 months old) Just follow your baby's cues and you will do fine!

I would say in general, go ahead and start with cereal now. After getting her used to the cereal, try mixing in some baby sweet potatoes or other fruits/veggies with the cereal. I don't know about the numbers, but if 2 is for 6 months, you can probably start 1 now. Good luck, and no matter what you do, she'll be fine!

you can start cereal from a spoon at 4 months, or earlier depending on their demand. My little one wasn't getting enough from formula, so at 2 1/2 months she was eating cereal from a spoon. Definitly don't start any vegtables or fruits until 6 months. Let her stomach and other parts grow and get comfortable with cereal. Give a bit of cereal in the morning, not at night, cause you might end up being up all night taking care of a sore stomach if the cereal doesn't sit well.

my daughter was eating rice cereal at 4 1/2 months, and by five months sweet potatoes and carrots or i would mix the rice cereal with a bit of baby peaches. she is the picture of health and never even had a cold and she is now 23 months old. Alot of people say not to feed your baby cereal until 6 months but you can tell if your baby is not satisfied with formula. just be aware of allergies

Yes most babies should wait for 6 m months to start baby food but my doctor told me four months was not too young if the baby seemed hungry after a feeding and that mixing a VERY small amount of cereal into formula or milk would be OK and to see how baby took it. The food should be like milk not thick very very runny. If the baby pushes his tongue out of mouth and thereby pushes food out he is not ready and try again in a month. Most do this thinking it will help baby sleep but there is no evidence of this and it can in fact make your baby less comfortable b/c little tummy's aren't always ready for food.

start now. 1 or b is the beginner which is usually 3-6 months. 2 is 6-9 months and 3 is 9-12 months. get the one first and try the cerel first wait a couple days just in case of allergies and continue on with the baby food. good luck.
