Mt. Rushmore is located in the badlands of South Dakota. It was completed in 1941 and the presidents represented are George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt.

Washington is called the "Father of Our Country" and was placed there for that reason as he was commanding the American soldiers during the American Revolution and was our first president.

Thomas Jefferson is sometimes called the "Author of America" and penned the Declaration of Independence and was our third president who oversaw the Louisiana Purchase and got Lewis and Clark on their merry way.

Lincoln is the "Great Emancipator" and was president during the Civil War. All three of these presidents are usually considered our greatest as the United States would not be the same without any of them.

Theodore Roosevelt was our twenty-sixth president and still had quite a legendary reputation at the time of sculpting. He was the president who instituted our national parks system and our first environmentalist president.
