Now elected to a second term Chavez has wasted no time in socializing Venezuela's petroleum industry, ordering the closure of an opposition tv network, and proposing unlimited terms for presidency. He played all of you stupid liberals like a fiddle, including Danny Glover and Harry Belafonte. Bush only has 2 years left in office -- do you really think Chavez is going to stop his America bashing in a Democrat is voted president in 2008? I don't think so. This whole time he's been using the anti-Bush sentiment to disguise his anti-American feelings and alot of us have helped him out by saying stuff like "he's standing up to Bush so he must not be a bad guy." In 2009 Chavez will be forced to reveal his anti-American hand -- especially if a Democrat is elected president . No, Bush is far from perfect but in 2009 he will have left office, unlike Chavez, Ahdeminijad, and Kim Jong II.

'Anya Mystica', what's wrong with that is that it's power grab in every sense of the word. By your own reasoning you should have no problem with the Patriot Act and warrantless wiretapping as it only serves to protect Americans by helping us find terrorists. Now to refute what you said, socialization of petroleum and other "public" resources means that the government can charge whatever rate they deem necessary, whereas privatization of those resources creates competition and the consumer wins with lower prices.

.... but back to your original statement let me ask you -- would you agree 100% with Bush if he decided to socialize the petroleum and telecom industries? Or would you scream "Bush is a dictator"?

-- Exactly my point!

'iwasnotanazipolka' ... I want you to show me where I mentioned anything about the Iraq War in my analysis. Come on .... point it out to me ... oh, that's right -- I DIDN'T MENTION THE IRAQ WAR.!!!!! Stop trying to drag your red herring all over my post and let's stick with the issues that were discussed originally. There are plenty of other posts to help you feed your Iraq War addiction.

Ah, yes. But you miss the point. The core of the anti-Bush chorus is the socialist/communist movements that are again gaining power around the world. (Don't believe me? Just read the signs of the protestors at most of these peace rallies - Communist Party of Turkey, Communist Party of France, etc.) I suspect they are thrilled by Chavez move to nationalize services. Did you read the other response? Apparently, anything that is "necessary to live" should be managed by the government, according to some. Strangely enough, they don't nationalize the food supply until all other avenues have been mismanaged, because mass starvation from government mismanagement isn't convenient until after the people have lost the power to protest.

By the way, I'm no great fan of Mr. Bush, but I find the anti-Bush left to be far scarier than even the forces of Bush. However, I will say, I think Bush's mismanagement of foreign affairs is what has led to the strengthening of the left around the world. I do blame Bush for the power of Chavez.

No you do not could help Bush to do not ignore that Chavez's words were insulting to u . s . of america and verey infantile at that. Do you imagine he might want to reply besides as Bush did to an identical style of insult? No, he might want to be outraged and be calling for apologies or the shortcoming of life of the guy making the statements. in case you want him a lot go there and publically call him the devil and be conscious how lengthy it really is in the previous his thugs haul you off the reformatory or positioned you up adverse to nearest wall. human beings like you do not realize that individuals like Chavez do not enable dissent contained in the international places they rule.

Where did you get the idea that all democrats and liberals support Chavez? Where? That's typical of the thinking of a lot of the conservatives on this board. If one liberal does something then they all must think that way. That's ridiculous. I really don't give a damn what Glover or Belefonte think. Chavez has been a disaster for that country and its citizenry and they will pay the price eventually.
Chavez paints the US as Venezuela's enemy for the same reason Bush calls for a gay marriage amendment when he knows it will never pass. It's to galvanize his base.

The facts are that we'll never truly know the exact motive behind every political figure or policy; both Chavez and Bush are guilty of posturing for popular appeal. I would advise you on two things: Quit seeing the world through the eyes of America, and always assume that you don't know the full truth (about someone else) - that includes your beloved US President & government.

What Chavez was saying about Bush, was to my mind, absolutely true. What Chavez's intentions were, I still don't know. I will say this about Bush; I have never, not once, trusted a single word he's uttered. Not because I'm a supporter of this or that party, not because I'm Canadian - but simply because the man lacks presence.

It is ridiculous of you to equate opposition to Bush's war in Iraq with support for an idiot like Chavez. C'mon, buddy, use your noggin. And who cares about Danny Glover anyway - he's entitled to his opinion - I just will never pay money to see anything he's in.

There is no support for Chavez, maybe Cindy Sheehan but she does not speak for the vast majority of Democrats just like Falwell ("9/11 is God's punishment ) doesn't speak for the vast number of Republicans.

Think before you pose a question, pal.

Thats just dumb. My opinion (as anti-Bush as they come) is we're against incompetent fools in any leadership position, anywhere in the world. The safety of this planet should not be placed in the hands of boobs and despots.

Why is it your business how Venezuela runs their own country? That attitude is a big part of our problem in America.
