I raise and breed hamsters....teddy bear hamsters to be exact. My last 2 mommies was different. One was older and had her babies with no problems. But the other was younger and got stressed during birth. My hamsters have on average 10 babies or more. Because she was stressed and young she packed the first 7 in her mouth which resulted in their death. But after she settled down for a while she had he last 3 and she let them live. During this process of stress she did not eat. With your hamster she could still be contracting and have more babies....but if she is done add a good sized amount of FRESH food.....not the bag stuff, fresh from you local pet store, to her house and make sure she has plenty of water. They are very protective of their babies so make sure you don't linger when doing this process or she will bite their heads off and kill them. When she is finished with delivery she will sit on them and eat. They are eating too and it wont kill them for her to be on top of them. Don't have any noise around her and don't hover over the cage. But check in on her and see if she is eating. If not you need to call a vet that specializes in rodents to help you. Not all vets are. Good Luck the hard part is already over! Let nature take its course!

She may not be done giving birth yet...they have 7 babies /litter on average. She may not fell safe leaving the babies to eat if her cage is not in a secure location that is quiet and away from noise.Hamsters have been known to consume the babies if they are stressed out but not ALL the time...wouldn't be very beneficial to the population would it.....Just try to leave her be and keep everyone away from her. They are nocturnal so she may have snacked a little in the middle of the night.Make sure you supplement her usual diet with fresh foods like cut up carrots and other veggies and some cooked egg yolk may help her get back her strength.

Well the important thing is that she is drinking water. If she goes more than two days and still does not eat I would take her to a vet. Congrats to the new mom.

call the vet.she may just be stressed from giving birth. if she doesn't eat after 24 hours i would definately start to worry and take her to the vet.

Probably so. She is just recovering. Make sure there is water available and that she is drinking.
