Venus

2007-01-10 02:48:35 · answer #1 · answered by ♥heartbroken♥ 3 · 0 0

Venus became the Latinized version of the Greek Goddess Aphrodite, goddess of love, lust, beauty and sexuality. The "evening star" was associated with her. Cytherea was another name for Aphrodite (hence the adjective Cytherean for things related to the planet Venus)

By the time the Romans associated the name Venus with that planet, they knew that the evening star and the "morning star" (shepherds' star) were the same object.

Names of the planets are the Latin names but the mythology behind them is Greek (the original Latin Venus was not quite the same as the Greek Aphrodite)

PS:
The planet itself has nothing to do with love. It's just a planet. Orbits the Sun. Reflects light. Spins (very slowly). Hot. Mysterious. Veiled. Brilliant...

Venus is all about pleasure, especially pleasure shared with someone else. This Planet concerns itself with love, romance and harmony in our emotional attachments, marriages, friendships and other unions (like business partnerships). Venus is content to spread happiness and tenderness, all the while teaching us how to love and appreciate others and the things that we possess.
