I say this with the utmost respect to our troops: if Bush sends 20,000 more troops into Iraq, he might as well put bulls-eyes on their backs. It's going to be a blood bath.
Do the math. There are over 1 billion Muslims worldwide. Conservatively, it's safe to assume that at least 1% of these Muslims are extremists, willing to die for their cause; willing to blow themselves up if they can take an infidel with them. That translates to 10 million potential terrorists. How, pray tell, can a couple hundred thousand troops overcome odds like this? The answer is that they cannot. Kill 100 insurgents and 1,000 will replace them. We cannot win this war with bullets.

I don't know yet. I haven't heard his speech so I don't know what his exact proposal is.
I expect that raising troop levels slightly will just lower morale in the army and make very little lasting difference on the ground. It is simply an act of defiance by Bush to basically thumb his nose at the 80% of the country who is screaming in his face to end this stupidity already. He's not done doing it "his way" yet.
This time next year, things will be about the same in Iraq or worse. Then we'll see what's next.

There was the rush to judgement on part of Bush to go war over his cliams of WMD and link to 9-11. Now Bush tells he has taken his time to consider the next move in Iraq.
Here is man with no military experience leading us down the road to another Veitnam. Remember how General Westmorland made the statements give 100,000 more troops and we can WIN!
Bush will not listen to the military or public and attempt to force his will on the public with aid of Karl Rove. The sooner we find way out of Iraq the better off this country will be in the long end.

its not just the 'politic' of bush, there are many advisers, democrat and republican alike, generals, assistants, cia/fbi, counter intelligence etc. that goes into making these decisions...its just that in front of the camera they act like they didn't participate....as for making it safer or worse...who knows, a lot depends on the iraqi ppl and government and what they want...we don't own nor do we want to own iraq. we took out a global dictator and a very cruel one at that it benefitted us and the world (and look at the thanks we get !) it is better in iraq now, not perfect but better instead of women being raped, beheadings, murders and beatings taking place in the soccer stadium they are now actually playing soccer (and if they lose qusay can't have them beaten or shot) the women are voting, women and young girls can walk the streets without fear of being dragged off by 'iraqi security' and raped for the entertainment of saddam and his sons. young girls are now able to get an education. the global community, stocks, bonds and financial opportunities are now flowing into iraq so it really is better now...will it continue to do so thats up to iraq. its time they took control...bush can only open the doors and help them so much the rest is up to them.

He will make Iraq worse. He want just to throw Iraqi problem on next Precedent to let him taste the the final run away on the hands of Iraqi resistance. The only option Bush has is to withdraw from Iraq and leave Iraq for Iraqis to decide their future.

We won't know more about his proposed plan until later on today. However, it's also important for the people of Iraq to help make things better and safer for themselves.

Get ready for the mass massacre of innocent Iraqis.
Get ready for the leveling of the cities where the Sunnis and the Sadr militia have strong grip.
