Definitely the BoogeyMan. . .hiding under my bed waiting to grab a wayward ankle or wrist. . .or the Wendigo.
And, vampires. . .definitely vampires. I always slept with my covers pulled up around my neck.

Having to watch 'Unsolved Mysteries' and 'Americas Most Wanted' with my family when I was little, about 7 or 8. And right when 'Americas Most Wanted' was over it was 8pm, which was my bed time, and my mom would make me go get dressed for bed. My window would be open and my bed was right next to the open window. I never would go without my big sister to watch me. I was always afraid the people I just saw on TV were outside my window. I hated that! I never understood why we had to watch such scary shows right before my bedtime!!

lived in the country as a child and got chased by a couple of cows while walking to school. Had to seek refuge in an old grain shed for a couple of hours. till the farmer came for his cows. I had a reoccurring dream about this for several years. in the dream I was running for my life and just before I would wake up I would look back to see how far behind me the cows were. their faces were only a foot a way and 1 of them would say{WE WILL GET YOU NEXT TIME}. I would wake up then just shaking and scared to go back to sleep in case I had the dream again.

Jack Frost terrified me. I thought if I left any of my extremities (including head) hanging out of the bed - he would come in the night and bite them off.
It used to get awful hot and hard to breathe under those covers, no wonder I'm a nervous wreck now....serious lack of sleep through my entire childhood :(
I don't know why but those ryhmes that we were all brought up with used to give me the creeps aswell :s ... all of them. I don't think I can recall one that ever made me think awwwwwww and feel all nice and secure.
What about you?

What ever that was that lived in my closet and the ghost that crept up the stairs at night. I don't think it is all imagination either. Children are naturally psychic and more attune to the other side. Even as an adult, I know when something ethereal is lurking.

Sharks... I must have watched Jaws once too often as a kid.
Edtied to add:
Oh, and my great grandparents full basement. They had this huge 200 year old house in New Hampshire that had a weird dark and creapy full basement. It would have been a good place to set a horror film.

i used to think that if i closed my eyes at night in bed then the monsters would think i was sleeping and it would be too boring to attack a sleeping kid. And if I opened my eyes there would be every monster known to man in the room. I was a weirdo. Still keep my eyes closed at night though. im 26.

Ghosts for sure. I saw them as a child and I am still able to see them now.
The monks believe that as a child we are still coming from our "previous life reincarnation", which stays with the child until the age of 2, or 3, which is why we (as children) are able to see ghosts.
This does not explain my still seeing and feeling ghosts but.

when i was younger my cousins used to talk about ghosts and such. I'm Jamaican and we refer to ghosts as duppy so at age seven when my grandmother died, i was afraid to go anywhere alone even if it was to the bathroom. i always thought that there was a duppy in every dark area and i would always ask someone to accompany me. after about 4 years of being afraid of my own shadow i began to understand that there was nothing to fear and i eventually outgrew it.
