Hmmm... let's set up this website to see if people will trust other people. Will they answer other people's question just out of the good of their heart, just to be helpful? How many will do it just out of competition, to see who can acquire the most points?

If Yahoo Answers isn't an experiment on us humans - it should be.

Ha. "It should be" was the first thing that popped into my head when I read the title.

I have really learned a lot about people from reading others' questions and answers. A lot of it, I don't like.

It may not have been intended for that purpose, but guaranteed there are people who do use this site for that reason... I know I have friends out there in cyberspace probing other peoples minds... I do it myself, (my friends, and I can be a bit analytical). The things people say, how they say it, and the categories they go to regularly help define who they are, coupled with the various meanings something can mean, (the the type of innuendo if any). I have found some really interesting people out there. There are also some really competitive people out there. And yes there is a huge factor based on quality vs quantity.

Ooh, I like this one! You seriously re posted somebody elses question as an experiment? I like it! I think it is a great indication of human behaviour. Here you have the "do gooders", the "wannabes", the "take life too seriouslys", and the straight up "jerks". The difference with YA is that a lot of these people I suspect wouldn't have the gonads to cross somebody who offended them in the street...here the promise of anonymity is just waaay too alluring! BTW, I don't report, I feel no need for it, and I respect the fact that everybody on here is just looking for their 20 seconds of connection, no matter how destructive or ridiculous their question/answer may be. Get's back to the old freedom of speech question now doesn't it?

the human thirst for knowledge is well documented, we has human learn from each other ,like practically all social animals, knowledge is passed on orally, it is passed on in writings, what better way to encourage learning than to research and answer a question that you did not have prior knowledge of, thats why the site is successful as for being an experiment ,i doubt that the designers had that issue in mind when the idea was first mooted. Of course, it is an experiment.I always had a very similar question on my mind coz we are allowed to answer questions.Thats fine. But we also qualify to vote our own answers. This made be believe that the phenomenon of Yahoo Answers could probably be human behaviour experiment.
But,Yahoo answers contributed a lot in knowing myself deeply, helped define my personality.
It helped me gain and share knowledge with the world.
Anyways,thanks for the question.

If you're really interested in human behavior you need to ask Charlotte Peterson! She's in the Answer column asking How do you think it would feel to have sex with a wild animal? She really means a animal. Check her out! She should be quite interesting to do an experiment with. To me she's just a Trifling Heffa!

Everything is. When you get down to it, any observer can conduct an experiment with technology such as this. Many things on the internet are experiments. The contests are ways of gathering information.

You know what? I'm really not sure, maybe Yahoo wants to bring everyone together so they can get a personal and a tried and tested opinion on the information they need
