What I do that works well with all my sponges is a few times a week take a bowl or whatever and put bleach and hot water in it and let the sponge or sponges soak for a while and then wash them out good and then put them in the microwave for 2 mins. Works very well and you will have no more spell or all those germs that get trapped in a sponge. I would also replace your sponges ever couple of weeks or so.

I spray mine with Odo ban.It kills almost all bad gross stuff that could be on a sponge.
There are some sponges meant to resist bacteria. They need to be dry or run them through the dishwasher and change sponges very often.
Try using paper towels for most kitchen jobs.

Yeah. you're meant to toss it while it stinks, yet we might use a million/2 our relatives budget on sponges if we did that! i've got tried hydrogen peroxide to illustrate to my toddlers (while they have been small and this become an argument) what happens once you circulate away a moist sponge. superb demonstration, however the subject stored ordinary, and the sponge stank as quickly as I squeezed the hydrogen peroxide out. Now I save a pump bottle of alcohol based hand sanitizer by applying the sink. once I squeeze liquid out of the sponge I pump some squirts of sanitizer on the sponge and squeeze to artwork it in. The alcohol cleans out the undesirable adult males, and then dries/evaporates out of the sponge. not greater pungent sponges!

I use bleach cleaner when wiping down my counter tops so the sponge gets bleached every night. This keeps it from smelling like mildew.
