That is one of the common arguments against liberals is that they have lower morals. but how is that possible? All those scandals that ripped through washington the past few years have all truned out to be conservatives. (mark foley, ted haggard, jack abramoff, tom delay, robert ney, john doolittle, jd hayward, etc...) dont you think that maybe the conservatives talk the talk, but dont walk the walk?

You only hear conservatives say that. Then that spin off some ludicrous far flung generalization about how liberals do __________ and support __________, and that those things are morally wrong, followed up by a tirade about how it's morally wrong to ______________ and ______________. What they don't realize is that to force their version of morality isn't morally right, but it is tyrannical.

I agree with you! It's not a useful, or an accurate, way to look at the issue.

I would discuss the positions on the issues, not the personal conduct of those espousing them.

I think conservatives have some good ideas on trying to limit resort to abortion, strengthening traditional marriage as being better for children, etc. But you are right - many can't live up to the standards they set! But that does not mean they are wrong. Clinton was a feminist but arguably harassed women. that does not make his views on feminism wrong.

Yes, it's amusing when some moralist gets "outed" as a hypocrite.

No, I would not claim either side has a monopoly on morality.

I am conservative and I do not attack liberals on moral grounds. I know many liberals personally and while I do not agree with their political views on many issues I still consider then to be fine people in all regards. However, liberals do have one failing which seriously annoys me and you have expressed it here perfectly. This is the idea that only Republicans are involved in scandal when there are numerous examples of Democrat scandals which liberals never call for action on, but rather try to sweep under the rug. William Jefferson Clinton is found to have 90,000 dollars in a freezer. Now maybe there is no wrong doing on his part, but it does warrant investigation into the matter. Liberal response, no calls for investigation, a standing ovation from Black Congressional Caucus and a subcommittee chaimanship. Harry Reid implicated in a scandal regarding favorable land deals. The fact that he voted on issues in Congress which were favorable to him rather than recuse himself for conflict of interest shows questionable ethics. Again no liberal calls for an investigation, instead he is now the Senate Majority Leader. These are just two examples, but there are plenty of others. I am all for government accountability and ethics, but this constant defense or outright ignoring of scandal on the Democrat side while screaming to the rooftops about Republican scandal is a hypocrisy. In short, want to be considered ethical and moral then act in a manner consistent with these principles instead of one-sided partisan politics. As to Republicans, show through proper evidence a crime has been committed and most Republicans will not continue to support that person, but innuendo does not constitute proof of anything. Further, even when charges are disproved against Republicans, Liberals do not say okay we are satisfied with the result. Instead we get well he is guilty even if we can't prove it.

we do have more and better morals. those folks are exceptions to the rule and would be embraced by the Democrats.

Foley never touched a person, his IMs were to an 18 yr old who has admitted it was a prank and is now under FBI investigation.

Haggard was not a politition.

Abramhoff had an equal number of Democrat contacts including Sen Harry Reid.

The charges against Delay have been dropped.

I notice you failed to mention the immoral and corrupt democrats.

It seems that liberals are good at keeping the conservative wrong doers in the the limelight - as they attempt to hide their own wrong doings. I can list many with details -but we all know what they are.

Bottom line - most politicians are dishonest to some degree. But in the view of liberals vs conservatives in real life - yes - I think that the conservatives have higher moral values than liberals. This is not a blanket statement. But you will find way more liberals having abortions.

This is one thing I don't understand - liberals are against the death penalty for criminals- but they are ok with killing innocent unborn children?

Why don't we come up with a list of Liberals with morals?

Starting with your god, William Jefferson Blythe Clinton... Remember, he was portrayed as the most moral man in America. It was just a Vast Right Wing Conspiracy...

He's considered your most moral person!!!

I guess it depends on what your definition of morals "is"?

Morals is a thing varies from human to human being. You can't say that conservatives have more morals than liberals.

There are bad apples in both idealogies, you are right. However, conservatives are against abortion, which is well, the most pressing moral issue in the US today.

The correct answer is "Conservatives do these things only about 10% as much as Liberals". You just hear about it more from the liberal news media. When a lib does these things they are protected and looked at as being more compassionate.

The only people that say that ARE the conservatives. Their moralistic attitude is ironic given the scandals you mention.
