Given that Venezuela is building a factory to produce AK-103 rifles, and Hugo's propensity to dabble in the political affairs of other countries, do you think that Venezuelan made weapons will eventually make it into the hands of Socialist groups in the regions? Groups such as FARC or Las Zapatistas, for example.

FascFiter: I wondered who'd be the first a.sshole to drag the misdeeds of the US into the answer, indeed utilizing it as an excuse to dismiss Chavez's actions. Bravo to you sir, I'm sure Hugo is writing out a check to you for your support as of now.

theoldman: Congratulations, you receive the second Idiot of the Day award. Just because I question the motives of Chavez, doesn't mean I give free reign to my own country.

Tell you what. If the US government doesn't get out of hand and threaten to overthrow the Democratically elected governments of the region (like we've done repeatedly in the past) maybe they won't feel the need to. Remember, Bush is FOR Democratically elected governments in other countries. Even if they turn out to be Shi'ite tyrants allied with Iran.

Unfortunately for Chavez, Venezuela can't distribute weapons to socialist groups like FARC in countries like Columbia that it shares a border with, because Venezuela can't afford to have a war against Columbia at this time. Venezuela has to tread very carefully about recognising Columbia's borders and government.

However, Venezuela has shown that it will distribute weapons and soldiers to any countries in the region that elect a socialist-leaning government, and it will distribute weapons to Venezuelan citizens loyal to the government, to use in the event of an attempted coup or invasion.

Mexico will be a tricky one for Venezuela though, since it has both a socialist and capitalist government at the same time claiming to be the legitimate government of Mexico.

Venezuela's policy will have to be one of officially recognising and mainting "friendly" relations with all the countries in the region, even while it criticises their ideologies. And of only providing moral support to socialist groups in those countries, at least until those groups are elected. Not because Venezuela thinks it is morally wrong to arm socialist groups in other countries, but just because of pragmatic concerns about trade, and not wanting a war with its neighbours.

Did Chavez have anything to do with a coup d'etat in the U.S? Or did the U.S. have anything to do with a coup d'etat in Venezuela?
Who has a "propensity to dabble in the political affairs of other countries"?

I am constantly surprised at how big a threat Hugo Chavez is perceived to be, by those outside of Venezuela.
