Amen to Texascrazyhorse. I must say, however, that I think Nixon was our last "liberal" president. (gasp!) He reinforced detente with the USSR, he opened talks with China, he was president when the EPA was formed, he was president when Title IX was passed. And he was still a vengeful, hateful, and right-wing crook.
It just shows how far to the right the US has moved in 25 years or so. I'm not saying that it's bad or good. I just think we should recognize where we are on the liberal/conservative scale.

Conservatives as well as Liberals believe they are right(correct) in their visions for the country.
The present conservative government has been in total control of the government and if you remember - power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely!
The best of governments is when the sides work together to achieve a common goal. But the Bush government has been rubber stamping anything that the president wants. This partisan government has created many problems for the U S and the rest of the world.
Their corruption is well documented and the people spoke in November to limit these absolute powers.
If you look around the world at other democratic countries and see how they work you would be amazed at the accomplishments in government.
No one party has all the answers, and no one person should have the dictatorial powers that G W Bush garnered for himself over the last six years. The US constitution was written to make it almost impossible to do but the Bush government got around all those controls, mostly because as they were doing it - you and your fellow citizens were silent.
They lied, they subsidized corporations while they were making the largest profits in their history, they gave tax breaks to the top one percent of the highest earners in the country. They borrowed so much money that the debt will have to be paid off for generations. (your old enemy, CHINA holds billions of your debt) Fun to think that just a few years ago China was hated by the American government and now they owe them more than a lot of countries have for a GNP.
Not to say the liberals are the great saviors they will be limits to how much they can do to bring the country back into a balance. They have a week control over the senate and congress and they still have to compete with the president who still has a great deal of power. The transition to a saner government will take time and the voters who took the senate and congress away from the republicans may not have the patience to wait. What is really needed in the U S is at least one more major party - two more would be better. More choice usually means better government for the people. In democracies that use the parliamentary system - a sitting government can be voted OUT OF OFFICE at anytime if they stray too far from what the other parties think is good for the country...see the U K or Canada. This system seems to keep elected officials on a tighter rein. To stay in power they have to work more closely with the opposition parties.

Many conservatives do not think this. Unless you have hard evidence to support that I would consider that you are exaggerating because you don't have a valid point. While there are some conservatives who feel that liberals are destroying America, I would imagine that there are just as many liberals who believe that bout conservatives. My response to all of them would be exactly the same and it would have the same indifferent and derisive tone that my response to your question. Edit: Your "proof" does not support your claim that "many conservatives" think like this. It simply proves that some on Yahoo Answers have expressed that opinion. Obviously your agenda has blinded you to the intent of my answer.

Im not scared. The Democracy we have wont allow that kind of thing to happen. How has Bush destroyed this nation? By cracking down on terrorism and trying to protect our citizens. Our national flag is red, white and blue, not just white. I think some liberal idealogies are very wrong, such as supporting abortion. How can you hate fighting terrorists, even in a controversial war, more than hating the killing of 1.37 million unborn babies each year, 93% of which are killed for birth control only?

I will try and sum it up as simply as I can. 2 families
Conservative- set rules set goals administer discipline to their children insist that adult children after finishing their education move out or pay rent.
Liberal -rules flexible use time-out as discipline allow their adult children to live at home without any responsibility.
Who do you think has a better chance of raising productive human beings this is a simple example of why many believe liberal policies will cripple this country.

Conservatives believe in personal liberties, capitalism and the power of family. Although idealistic, in practice most of their beliefs do not pan out for poor and low waged citizens. Like most theories, theirs is great on paper. With that belief, and view points to the contrary are in their beliefs against state, god, and the people.
Unfortunately, social reforms are necessary for the progression of our nation. Social reforms such as the civil rights acts, woman's suffrage, united health care reform, medicare, medicaid.. are necessary for the civil liberties of all citizens of America.
Sooner or later each side will have to come to a balance. To recognize though theories give great hope of what we can become, social reforms get us to the next level.

I wonder that too. We haven't had a liberal president since, well, JFK. I guess Carter was sorta liberal. Clinton was quite conservative. And the Republicans have been in control of Congress since 1994 and they've had the presidency since 2000.
Plus every TV news person is a conservative wannabe. I can't figure out what they're complaining about!!

Conservatives are afraid of anything new. Same sex marriage, Global Warming (thought they still deny its existance), stem cell reaserch, ect...
They prefer to Conserve things the way it was back in the day when the church owned everything and made the rules. So its not their fault, they are just not too fond of change.

Not all do, so please don't generalize. The ones that do refuse to think for themselves and they buy into whatever the right wing talking heads like Hannity, Limbaugh, and Savage tell them.
