Why is it that a player like Mark McGuire (who actually held the Home Run record) does not get into the Hall of Fame for suspicion of steroids (that were not banned at the time) while Sean Merriman is praised as a great defensive player after testing positive for steroids and being forced to sit out 4 games?

just remember, all players are hoping to win championships and be enshrined into the hall. It is their dream, since childhood.

Remember, both Merriman and McGuire were in a steroid scandal.

Great question. It is complete and utter hypocrisy. I believe the reason this has happened is that baseball has been under a great deal of scrutiny( thanks to Jose, and his self serving crap) in recent years. Their decision about McGuire is an attempt, albeit a poor one, at damage control. He is, or rather should be an automatic hall of famer, hands down. Also, I believe that the NFL dropped the ball when it comes to Merriman's Pro Bowl selection.
Cheers

Football is in this case the most popular sport in the nation, secondly Merriman was not aware that the drug was inside him. Big Mac was aware but probably not proud of the fact that he was knowingly cheating.
