First there's always another way to handle it. "Broke" the law? If you already killed it why even ask.? If it has tags on and is non aggressive you should have tried to find its owner first. You can call the local police dept. or SPCA in your area they would have come out to remove this animal. You should NEVER have to kill an animal that may be some child's pet just because you think its your right. Pets /animals have a right to better treatment then that. (if the animal was aggressive) then you should have called authorities. My words may be harsh but SHAME ON YOU

If you are referring to a domesticated animal such as a dog or cat, it would depend on the state your in. I know for Oklahoma, it doesn't matter whether the animal was a stray or a persons pet. It really doesn't matter if you killed it, were trying to kill it, or were just helping someone else try kill it. If someone with a good heart should see or did see you do anything, or they hear about what you did/are going to do, and they decide to contact animal control, and animal control wants to charge you, it is going to be an expensive ordeal.

I am assuming you are talking about someone's pet. Guess it really depends on the state you live. Contact the owner and ask them to keep their animal off your property. It is the responsibility of pet owners to control their pet. If the pet owner is trying, then be patient. If not, the next thing I should say is to call animal control; however, I won't. You then should fix the problem yourself and just keep it quite.

Yes, it is perfectly legal. It was on your property, and you didn't want it there. Especially if it was causing problems with your animals. Now if it wasn't doing anything the owner could try and get you in trouble and it is their responsiblility, and you could come back with, you were fearing for your animals, yourself, your children, and what not. But you can shoot an animal that endangers your livestock. I live in the country and a dog was chasing and trying to kill my horses, so we shot him. the owners tried to sue us, but to no prevail cause they didn't control it.

IT IS NEVER OKAY TO KILL AN ANIMAL! Imagine if a dog asked, "Is it okay to kill an human if it is not yours yet on your property?" WHAT WOULD YOU THINK IF YOUR PET WAS KILLED BY SOME LUNATIC WHO DOESN'T READ THE BIBLE!

if its a pet and/or stray then you should call animal control even if it is aggessive... b/c killing and/or hurting an animal is abuse and in some states a felony.... also if its a pet the owner could press charges. Wild animal on the other hand.... you should leave it alone as well and if its aggressive go inside and leave it alone.

All you have to do,is simply, call animal control. What do you gain by killing an innocent animal. That's cruel, and it doesn't solve anything.

If you accidentally ran over a squirrel then I wouldnt worry about it even though it is a tragic and shocking loss of life.

On the other hand, if you did something to someone's pet intentionally then you're screwed.
