You're right. Road pricing is crazy. Its a technical nightmare to get working and a pointless expense, compared with the efficiency of just raising fuel duty (which already taxes people roughly in proportion to miles driven). Its another big brother nightmare, as it requires tracking you everywhere you go and keeping databases of offenders. The system has to deal with the high percentage of vehicles that are driven by foreign lorry drivers. It taxes law-abiding citizens more than people driving unregistered vehicles who still have to buy taxed fuel. etc.

As usual, the policy is ill thought out. Anyone can see there will be thousands of cases that the government didn't predict and the system isn't flexible enough to cope with, where some individual or group is clobbered unintentionally or more-than-intended and can't afford to pay.

Your link isn't quite right. For anyone thats interested, its...

Yep, I sure have - NO, NO, NO to more bloody road charges - they're not quite charging us for the air we breathe yet, but they're nearly there!
