I recently contacted an ex- (who is now married) to see if she wanted to try and be friends. During an e-mail exchange she told me she had three miscarriages and was also dealing with breast cancer, apologized, and said she needed to focus on herself. I expressed sympathy, and offered again nothing but friendship and support. She then sent an e-mail asking me if I was "trying to wreck" her life, claiming people who walked by her computer might see what I had written. I was shocked by all the drama. I've since respected her wishes and left her alone, but I don't understand why she lashed out at me like that. If she hates me so much, wouldn't it have been easier to not disclose any details and just say "I'm sorry, but I can't be friends with you" without disclosing such personal info or getting angry? I can only assume she lashed out b/c she was trying to make me feel bad (and I do feel bad) so that I'd give up and go away. Am I wrong? Is it possible she's lying about her health?

Uh, I really don't think she would like about having cancer or miscarriages. These are painful things to deal with. Why do you seem to care if she is lying, all you needed to know she already told you. She said she wanted to focus on herself. That statement should have been enough for you to NEVER contact her again. And you must be crazy to contact her knowing she is married. Leave this poor woman alone. Don't stalk her.
