Is a silver silk halter top with a long satin floor length black skirt too formal?

I would also be wearing a black chiffon like wrap. The Silk grey/silver halter is formal looking.

Here is the top bought for the occasion. Too much?? The skirt is a fitted at the hips and flares at the calf in black.

no it might not be... but is it stylish? try to think what will most girls be wearing if you dont want to stand out than wear whats popular if you do want to stand wear something that not too many girls will wear.

I would say you were okay if it were a private "friend" type affair but the silver halter top is just not a good idea for a corporate affair. Also, what ever top you wear, I think it would be better to go with a knee length skirt or a pair of slack, floor length is more formal.

yes that is too formal, try the little black dress with reg color hose and strappy sandals, minimal jewelry if you wear earrings don't wear a necklace ans vice-versa.
