I had a scan at 12 weeks and the sonographer told me the baby was spot on size wise for my dates, Monday I had my 20 week scan and now the head measurements are coming up lower then last time and I have been asked to go back for growth monitering, I asked the sonographer what it all meant but she couldn't explain, she began asking me if my other child was normal and if he has any problems. Has anybody else had this happen? it's my second pregnancy and I am very worried about my baby now, I fear something is wrong and they don't want to tell me.

I am as sure as I can be about my dates, LMP was 19th August giving me a due date of 26th May which should make me 20 weeks plus 4 days. I have a little bump and feeling strong regular kicks, she said heart and lungs looked normal and other organs.

And I don't smoke or drink regardless of pregnancy.

Could you have feasably got the dates wrong? If your periods aren't regular this could happen.
Do you smoke? This definately affects baby's size
Other than that some babies are just smaller than others and it's probably nothing to it, it must have been worrying for the nurse to ask you about your other child, but they would let you know if they had any real concerns. Try to relax and not stress too much

Call your doctor and ask if he is concerned. My guess is if they were they'd have said something...the sonographer can't.

It could be that your baby is just small, it could be that the original date was off (even though it looked right) scans can be off at least one week either way. It could be the posistion of your baby, it could be machine malfunction.

How about heart, lungs, brain, kidneys did they say?

Hi
did tyhey say that all the other measurements were ok? Was it all inproportion or didn't they say? Did tehy give you a print out of the measurements etc for your file. I would speak to your midwife/GP and ask them to talk you through any possible issues. Remember they are only average sizes
Good luck with the baby

The sizes for babies at this stage are just averages. By defintion, some babies have to be below the average - that's just how the numbers work. Try not to worry and make sure you eat enough protein and get plenty of sleep.

dont worry im sure everything will turn out fine in the end. just dont cause unwanted stress as this will stress your baby too.it might be something to do with the angle at which your baby was at, at the different times it was checked! good luck, i hope everything goes well for you.x
