Only the largest touring motorcycles (most prominently, the Honda Goldwing) and a few models that are routinely used with a sidecar or converted to tricycle configuration are fitted with a reverse gear. On some, it is not really a reverse gear, but a feature of the starter motor which when reversed, performs the same function.

Honda and BMW use the starter motor to turn the shaft drive to the rear wheel to enable low speed reversing while the engine is off. I've not come across any chain drive bikes with a reverse.

Many large touring bikes have some sort of reverse gear. My goldwing uses the starter motor for a slow, controlled reverse. I use it when touring but when the bike is empty and level, I find I can back up faster using my legs.

large heavy bikes (grand tourers) like the 1000cc Honda GoldWing, already have a function like a reverse gear. Indian bike manufacturers done include it because there is no space for an idler gear in the small transmission, and it is expensive to introduce one more gear without the shift rail method used in cars

purely the most important traveling motorcycles (maximum prominently, the Honda Goldwing) and some fashions that are automatically used with a sidecar or switched over to tricycle configuration are equipped with a opposite equipment. On some, it is going to not be a opposite equipment, yet a function of the starter motor which at the same time as reversed, performs the same function.

Besides some large touring machines, there is also a reverse drive option available when installing a sidecar. In the trans kit, adds reverse to HD 5 speed.
