I have had a tank for over a year with fish in and now all my plants have been eaten i have just bought a new goldfish and some new plants. I need to introduce the fish and plants how do i go about doing this, i will put the fish in now but what happens with the plants? will it harm the fish just sticking them in??

Nope, just stick them in after rinsing them briefly in lukewarm water to remove any gunk.
However, your goldfish will likely eat the plants. Goldfish love veggies and will ready eat edible plants. You can feed other veggies to try and distract him from the plant, if you want. In my experience, the only common aquarium plants that can withstand goldfish are amazon frogbit (floating plant) and some anubias.

You will have to decide what plants you are putting in there, you need specific plants that can survive under water. You may also want to see if the fish you are introducing will eat your plants. Make sure there is some sort of co2 in the tank if there is loads of plants. Look up aquarium plants in yahoo or google search engines for more info before doing this.

no it will not hurt the fish to just stick the plant in.... though you need to rinse the plant off before you put it in to make sure. =)
