It’s something I’ve always wanted to do but not something practical…so parents didn’t let me. Went to college…now have 2 degrees (BBA and MBA) working for major corp but not happy. A part of me feels I need to give that dream up…too late to start at my age. I know I would need to take classes and work a lot to develop my skills…but at 31 am I being unrealistic. I know anything is possible but really…can anything good come of it at my age?

I am going to go with the other cliche "You can do anything you set your mind to." If you want to go into acting then do it! Don't quit your job but do get into community theater to be sure it is what you REALLY want to do and see how good you really are at acting. Start there and see how it progresses......

Anything is possible and it's never too late to pursue your dream.

Having said that, if you've ever watched credits in movies you'll notice a lot of the same last names popup time and time again. It's hard to break into acting via Hollywood because most actors get their positions through being born to an actor or knowing someone in the industry.

Kirk Douglas - Michael Douglas
Bruce Dern - Diane Ladd - Laura Dern
Blythe Danner - Gwenth Paltrow
Vanessa Redgrave - Natasha Richardson
Fernando Lamas - Lorenzo Lamas
John Carradine - Keith Carradine - Martha Plimpton
John Houston - Anjelica Houston
John Barrymore - Drew Barrymore
Robert Alda - Allen Alda
Danny Thomas - Marlo Thomas
John Astin - Patty Duke - Sean Astin
Charlie Chaplin - Geraldine Chaplin
Goldie Hawn - Kate Hudson

Those are ones that I can think of right now, but there are many others not only in acting but in producing and other aspects of the film industry. To be sure, not all actors are related to someone that is already an actor, but it sure opens doors for you even if you aren't very good.

So, be related to an actor, know someone in the industry, or be a very, very good actor.

Hello Flo. You hit the spot for me, I have always dreamed of being an actor (actress) for such a long time now. I feel in my heart I could really do it. I am at a job to that I would rather be acting than anything thing else, even if it is just doing commercials or voice overs. My problem is I live in a small town that I have no way of even applying for anything that has to with acting. So, my advice to you would be to, if you live near by a acting studio or somewhere that you can audition for commercials or some sort go for it. If you have an acting college nearby go there first for the experience. And good luck........

I think you could. I think you should do it. You dont have to be a former child star or related to a big time movie director! I think you should do it. Determination is the only key. Good Luck!
