Because isolationism does NOT work. World War II proved it. Thinking that we should only deal with our country is an obsolete way of thinking - we live in one world, and it is no longer possible too ignore other countries problems, nor is it desirable to do so. With the econonomy of the planet being global now, ignoring other countries problems is beyond crazy - its suicide.

Because we live in a global community. We no longer have the luxury of ignoring what other countries do, because it is now too easy for them to export their activities to our soil.
Besides, would you ignore the murdering and torture being conducted in a house across the street from yours...even when you know it is going on? What if the guy who owns the house was a KNOWN murderer, had committed acts of violence against other neighbors, and was threatening to do it again?
I would hope you wouldn't look the other way. But if so, I would not want to live in your neighborhood.

Good question, I think it is the infamous, "it is the way it has always been done". There is no good reason why we spend billions and perhaps trillions in other country's and let our own people live in poverty without giving them any help what so ever. 45 million in this country are without access to affordable health care, but Bush wants to spend a billion dollars rebuilding Iraq. Hey they have oil.

To a point that would be a good thing. I don't think any country should get any thing from the USA unless: They do what we want voluntarily. That should be absolute! The money saved from that alone should balance our budget and pave the streets in gold.

because we're not the only ones on the planet. there's trade. we all share the oceans and the sky and bla bla bla. plus, you can build a bomb in one country and carry it to another. same with drugs. same with human beings. plus, we have hearts and like to help people who are suffering. it's our responsibility as the richest nation in the world to give to those who have very little.
however, i agree that sometimes we butt in where we are absolutely not needed or wanted.

Sounds good to me. We shouldn't be involved in Darfur, or any other African country, Indonesia or any other 3rd world country. I'm all for it.
