The draft is a Democratic plan, not a Republican plan.
The armed services can reassign 20,000 troops without the need for a draft.

The USA needs larger armed forces because we have cut them down for years (decades), and the current conflicts and old occupation and stabilization requirements are stretching those on active duty and the called up reserves to the limit. However, the officers (correctly in my opinion) appreciate the volunteer aspect. I doubt that a draft will come about for at least 3-4 years and only then if major enlistment incentives and a raise in military pay with better benefits does not improve the enlistment rate adequately. Likely everyone on active duty will be held to their maximum enlistment contract commitment and those released from duty into the inactive reserve will be called back to active duty (some of this is happening already).

Yep.....although I don't agree with it, I am sure there are a lot more pieces to the puzzle that I don't know and none of us know....and if you read the new, this surge is temp and the Iraqis and the US have agreed to some bench marks that must be met for the US to continue support.....That being said.....
the answer to your question is YES. He has flat out said he is not making policy based on public opinion, he is taking advice from comanders on the ground, studies and reports....and if more troops are needed to win, then thats what he is going to do.
For the record, I don't agree with going in the first place, it should not have been done, however, now that we are there, we have to do what it takes to win. I would be ashamed of this country if we went in and took down a gov, which they are happy about by the way, and then just left before the job was done....we have to finish what we started.
And Jesi has the right of it.....everyone who has mentioned the draft in congress has been a Dem....

Wow. countless the cons right here do not understand what the hell is going on over there. Reserves are being despatched over in tremendous numbers. excursions are being involuntarily prolonged as are hitches by stop-loss. briefly, we may be able to really help the troop element we've. regardless of that, there is not any way a draft occurs. Repubs do not favor it because it may propose the "haves" will take at different burden, even although they have traditionally weaseled out of that legal responsibility in warfare after warfare. Democrats do not favor it because we do not favor everybody else to die for this idiotic misadventure. we are able to not assume the international places we kept away from after we desirous to flow it on my own to get our decrease back now. not with this regime in skill.

Unless WWIII breaks out, I don't believe our current sitting President or the next one will initiate the draft.
Those times have passed and the American people will not stand for it.
P.S. Other countries think that because we are somewhat stretched thin in S. Korea, Europe, Afghanistan and Iraq that we would more than likely be crushed if a superpower like China would attack us. The patriotism showed by the American people after 9/11 would double or even triple if any other country ever set foot on US soil.

If in the event that this joker does get the draft reinstated, then they had better start enlarging Ft. Leavenworth where the "found guilty" for the military are sent.

Bush will exend our deployemnt as far as he can to promote his adgenda, the wolfowitz plan. He views us as the worlds dominate power and wishes to impose his will, not ours , as only 26% support him, on other countries by force. He would call up as many as he can to do his personal will. Of ocurse his 26% must all be yahoo account holders!:-)
