Do you specifically want to put your designs on *metal*?

And what exactly are your "design works"?... drawings or paintings of your own, or just designs of your own in any medium?

For example, we polymer clayers made pendants all the time. We can make them any size, shape, color (metallic if needed), or pattern, etc..... then we can embellish them further in various ways, including drawing/painting on them or using a "transfer" to do that, stamping or texturing into raw clay, adding all kinds of onlays or inlays, and so much more.
If you're interested in checking out some pendants made from polymer clay, look from this page at my site:

...maybe just start out with the "Websites" category there, since that page is mostly about making pendant shapes, and using various connectors or cordings, etc., more than about all the diff. designs that can be used on the pendants:

NO LEAD
go to a store like JoAnn's or Micheal's or Hobby Lobby or visit these same stores online also WalMart. Browse the jewelry section where you will find jewelry findings even in sterling silver.
The prices are reasonable for beginner's and home crafters.
Then visit http://www,diynetwork.com and click on Jewely Making for instructions with step by step pis and links to artists.

You can really use anything, but to really make your designs shine, I'd recommend sterling or fine silver. If you're on a budget, you can also do some wonderful things with copper and bronze.

I've seen people use bottle caps as mediums to make pendants.
You can get a 100 on ebay for like $100.
