You should be able to get some answers from the school board in the area where your daughter is supposed to attend school. Many places will now hold the parent responsible and the parent can be put in jail for the child not attending school!
Check into the school board for your daughters school.

You will likely end up needing to involve a lawyer, but it sounds like you want to avoid that for now. Start with the school again. It is illegal in Ohio to completely avoid school without proper local district notification (for Home Schooling or Emergency Exemption, for instance). Her School District Office will have a policy handbook you need to acquire. It will tell you how the district has planned to handle this particular situation. Then contact the person indicated in their policy to ensure this policy is moving forward. The point you can feel better is when the County Sheriff is involved. Some districts go right to the local Sheriff, others require a court order first, but when it gets to the Sheriff's office, you can be sure she will not slip through the cracks.

County Children's Services would be next, as mentioned by the others here.

Good luck. You really cannot CONTROL the situation, but you can stay on top of it.

First off, have you talked to your daughter? Have you asked her why she refuses to go to school? At her age it would be difficult for ANY parent to drag her to school and chain her to her desk at school all day. As a parent myself I would make my kids life very very boring to the point that they would think school was a picnic compared to being at home and they would look forward to going to school. By you saying your x doesn't send your daugther to school I find that hard to believe, what I can imagine though is a very unruly pre-teen, or teenager, refusing to go to school and a mom at her wits end or just given up all together. Which I am not saying is right either. If you live in the same state as your x why don't you show up and take your daughter to school? Both parents working together for a common goal might show your daughter that this is a serious issue and one that you are not taking lightly. That she needs to get her butt to school each and every day. By 8th grade kids can start to take some responsibility for their success and education.

See if your school district has a truant officer that will help you. Sometimes they will be more help than the school. It's possible your wife has turned in home school paperwork, which keeps the district from being able to respond.

You might ask children's protective services for suggestions, without giving your child's name.

Have you tried social services? It may seem a bit drastic, but it doesn't sound like anything else is working. Going to school is very important, and not sending her could be considered negligence.
Good luck!

Talk to your ex wife first. Then if that doesn't work hire a lawyer and file for custody. Your ex wife should be ashamed of herself.
