I hope someone can help me. I have ADSL broadband which works perfectly when connectedf to my Desktop or Laptop via ethernet. However I have bought a new Belkin ADSL Wireless Modem. I connect my Desktop to my new modem via ethernet and hope to pick up the wireless signal via my built in card in my laptop. My desktop does not have a pci card. Do I need one for it? or will the connection via the ethernet be enough to connect to the internet or will I have to install a USB adapter also?
Also when I do this my laptop sees the network connects to it fine but cant display webpage.
I have disabled all my firewalls and virus stuff and checked my TCP/IP protocol is set to Obtain IP address automatically. Please help! Where am I going wrong???

There are so many things that can be causing the problem. Things to check first:

1. Are you able to display pages when connected to the ethernet or USB port?

2. If so, do you have the wireless security setup the same between the wireless modem and the laptop.

3. For your desktop, does your wireless modem have an ethernet port? If not, then you will need to get either a USB port or a Wireless network PCI card for your desktop. I would probably do the USB port if the desktop will be close to the modem.

4. For wireless, there are several different protocols out there. Make sure that your wireless modem and laptop support the same protocols. For example, 802.11a; 802.11b; 802.11g; 802.11n.

Many devices support multiple protocols but few of them support all of them. Make sure both computer and modem support the same protocols.
