I want to take up a hobby/interest that will help me make friends in the new area that I have moved to. I am rubbish at sport but don't want to take up knitting, bowls or stamp collecting! Any serious suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and "the pub" doesn't count - I do that lots already.

I'd suggest maybe a dance class or a dart league (I mean, if you're at the pub already!)

In all seriousness, maybe you should check into volunteering opportunities in your area, You'll get to meet new people while helping to improve the lives of others.

If you have the patience of a saint, try cross stitching. It is very time consuming, and start with something small so you get the feel for it. You can make some beautiful things!

If cross stitching is too intricate and hard, then I suggest scrapbooking! It is great fun, you can have a girls night at someones house and all do a page each! It is very popular every where, and you create pieces of art you can display. And much easier than cross stitching!

Good luck!

How about a nail cropping or pedicure or both. they're easy, might want to be considered frivolous, and are nonetheless extremely low-priced. Or, imagine of doing some thing jointly you've by no ability tried in the previous instead of having him purchase you some thing. Spend the day at a topic park, or museum. good success.

I say take up scrap-booking. I just recently got into it and it's tons of fun. However it can be slightly expensive if you do multiple books a month. Where I live there is a scrapbook store that offers classes and that is a great way to meet people.

Scrapbooking! It is a great hobby, and chances are you have tons of picutres that you haven't done anything with. I really enjoy scrapbooking, it is a great way to relax and be creative. There is no right or wrong way to do it, and you'll be preserving your family memories forever.

What about scrapbooking? You could start one on all the events and places you go to. Or a book or movie club? Are you artistic? Try calligraphy or painting. Hope this helped.

Puzzling, its a new fad starting to catch on around the world. People getting together and working on puzzles for an afternoon. I usually do it every Thursday afternoon and absolutely love it. See if you can find anybody in your area starting.

I'd suggest you also check out "Craftster" online (it's free).

You'll find lots of hobbies there, and primarily women your age who like to do them ... lots of friendly interaction and support too.
(I think they even have some message boards which are oriented toward people in certain areas, so you might even find craftsters near you.)

Protest something, become an activist for something you believe/support. Volunteer somewhere. Hey, there is always religion if you are into that sort of thing.
