Agency Affirms Human Influence on Climate
By ANDREW C. REVKIN
Published: January 10, 2007
President Bush has said it.
A lot of government scientists have said it.
But until yesterday, it appeared that no news release on annual climate trends out of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration under the Bush White House had said unequivocally that a buildup of greenhouse gases was helping warm the climate.
The statement came in a release that said 2006 was the warmest year for the 48 contiguous states since regular temperature records began in 1895. It surpassed the previous champion, 1998, a year heated up by a powerful episode of the periodic warming of the tropical Pacific Ocean by El Niño. Last year, another El Niño developed, but this time a long-term warming trend from human activities was said to be involved as well.

“A contributing factor to the unusually warm temperatures throughout 2006 also is the long-term warming trend, which has been linked to increases in greenhouse gases,” the release said, emphasizing that the relative contributions of El Niño and the human influence were not known.
A link between greenhouse gases and climate change was also made in a December news conference by Dirk Kempthorne, the secretary of the interior, as that agency proposed listing polar bears as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.
Still, the climate agency’s shift in language came as a surprise to several public affairs officials there. They said they had become accustomed in recent years to having any mention of a link between climate trends and human activities played down or trimmed when drafts of documents went to the Commerce Department and the White House for approval.
James L. Connaughton, chairman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, said the release reflected longstanding v

I don't know if they have officially come to that conclusion or not. If they have, then arguement can be made that the president and his administration are not living up to their oath of office ("to protect from all enemies foreign and domestic") I f you beleive that there is no clobal warming then I think you just don't watch the news. America has many enemies this administration and almost all previous administrations have made sure of that but, there is no bigger enemy than our own planet. One 10.0 earth quake placed just right could bring down our entire world economy and yet we still quibble over is there global warming or not. The question really should be are we smart enough to survive if there is. We have the resources and technology to change things to a new environmentally friendly world but greed stands in our way. The "Haves" have too much say. Remember how our government was founded on the idea of "one person one vote". That's long gone. If we are to survive with or withour global warming we better get of our asses soon.
How much do you think this planet, our mother can take.
Think about it

Dude, get a grip. Democrates, Republicans..... Whats the difference when you get right down to it. If everyone were to research the candidate they voted for themselves they would find very few are worth anything. These guys worry more about finding their " legacy " than actually resolving problems. They will avoid any action unless it wins votes and popularity. Research these guy and find the truth. No, Bush isn't going to do squat about global warming just as no one else is. Its about the almighty dollar, euro, yen, and what ever else the economy is running on. When you shut up and shop with your politics you will get results. Big bucks dictates or didn't you know. GNP is the power.

Chainsaw the ignorant has re-appeared.
I know this doesn't prove global warming but my area has experianced the warmest avg years recorded the last 2 years and the worst prolongrd drought in the last 100 years. I haven't tuned my heater on in 3 years but the airconditioner runs non-stop 9 months of the year. Local lakes are up to 50 ft lower than "normal" level.
Something IS going on.

Typical liberal half truths I don't ever remember anyone including the president deny that there is global warming.
The question is what percentage is caused by human activities and I personally think very little, if you eliminate forrest fires, volcanic activities, increase solar activities animal waste everyone want to ignore theses contributors why?
Somehow there are a lot of people think we are more powerful than nature, sorry I think nature is more powerful.

The Earth goes through many climate changes without us. Greenhouse effect is real BUT it will be canceled out. Scienctist predict that another little iceage is coming. The last 1 happened around the time of the American revolution. It wasn't that bad just more beer instead of wine now. The tempature will drop a few degrees we'll run out of fuel and then we can begin reversing the process if we had anything to do with the greenhouse gases.

My advice is not to invest in any glaciers or pack ice.
The Bush administration has a track record of suppressing legitimate science reports that oppose their political positions.
